IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Burrrr! Winter has arrived and it sure is cold outside! Our nighttime temperature was 25 degrees when we woke up yesterday. The wind was blowing from the north, so the wind chill factor made it feel even colder. And it's probably going to get worse because the weather folks are predicting freezing rain for today. I fed the birds and broke the ice on the bird bath so they could have some water. We had left the fountains running and they did their part by contributing some interest ice art!
We had a fun weekend. We were invited to a "light parade" on Saturday night, so we decorated the golf cart. We loaded it on its trailer and towed it with the Expedition along with about 35 other cars, trucks and big rigs. Our plan was originally to drive it, but the parade moves right along between towns. We would have been left in the dust and would probably have finished the parade route at midnight! Besides, it was cold out and that thing doesn't have any heat! We started out in Mohler, next Wheeler, Nehalem, Manzanita and Bayside Gardens. People came out of their homes to wave and cheer us on! We had some pictures, but they didn't turn out well, so I didn't use them and just included those of us all dolled up.
The loop through Wheeler was very short and we didn't go past many homes. So, the next evening Dave decided to take the golf cart (it's still all lit up) around Wheeler. A nice plan, but it wasn't very long before I got a call saying to come and get him as the golf cart had died and he couldn't get it re-started. Luckily, he was at the Wheeler train station, so we had to get the trailer and Expedition and haul him back home. He tore into the cart and found a loose wire, so he thinks he has the problem fixed. He will try again before Christmas.
Dave had his Oncologist conference on Tuesday, so we drove to the VA Hospital in Portland for that. Our girls wanted to be there as they had some questions, and we wouldn't remember everything the doctor said. She explained the "next" treatment that Dave will be doing. He will be receiving radiation IV's every three weeks for six cycles. This should at least slow down the cancer and hopefully get rid of it. We have to be really careful with the radiation as it is kind of dangerous. I have been told I will have to stay away from him for three days following each treatment. So, he'll live downstairs until the time passes or he quits glowing in the dark, whichever happens first. Seriously, we hope this will help him.
I heard on the news that Northern California had a severe earthquake (6.4) and there was a lot of damage. I have a cousin who lives in Eureka and I was concerned about her family. I called but had to leave a message as the cell towers were damaged. She called me back the next day and told me that they had a lot of things fall off shelves and walls, but they were okay. I was glad to hear that news. She has an extensive collection of Coca-Cola items on display and I guess that - and a lot of other things - was all over the place! The 'quake lasted a long time and I guess some people suffered damage and lost a lot of stuff. Can you imagine? Just before Christmas!
We are planning to drive to West Salem and spend Christmas Eve at our daughter's place. Our granddaughter, Ashtin is here from Florida, and I am excited to see her and husband, Austin. We need to get a first-hand report on that great-grandchild that's due in July. Also, her sister Paige is home from college and so ALL the granddaughters will be together. That's always fun to see them.
Everyone, please stay safe and have a Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year!
