IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
We had a great weekend, steam boating in Cathlamet, Washington at the Northwest Steam Society steam meet. There weren't as many boats as previously meets that we have attended, but it was nice to see the people who did come to the meet. Dave's cousin, Dennis and his wife, Yvette came as our guests, so they met us up there. (That's Yvette in the red to my left in the photo. It seems she always has her back to us when we take a photo!) They live in Kelso, which is about a half-hour drive from Cathlamet and we stayed at their house each night. We took our boat but unfortunately did not put her in the water. She just wasn't running up to speed and besides, the winch to get it back on the trailer wasn't working either. But, it was good that we took the steamboat as Dave had lots of guys putting their heads together to figure out why it was running so slow and he came home with some new ideas to try. We will see.
We did manage to hitch a ride with one of the steamers, so at least we got out in the water.
One of the things that happened at the steam meet was one of the smaller steamboats got tangled in some Milfoil weed along the shore. The biggest boat in the group went out to help get it loose and ended up in worse condition. It was a sternwheeler and she hit some old pilings in the shallow water and tore three holes in her side. She almost sank before the marina boat managed to get her back to the dock. You can see from the photos how close she was to going down. They saved the boat but there is quite a bit of damage! A lot of excitement!
While we were at the Nichols', Yvette had a gallbladder attack and ended up going to the ER in the middle of the night! She had surgery yesterday to remove her gallbladder because of gall stones.
Our granddaughter, Jadyn took off for her first camping adventure with her camper/van. She started out in the Olympic Peninsula going on hikes in the rain forest. She dropped by our place on the way south because she had to install brackets to keep her sliding drawers from coming open while she was driving. After she left our place, she headed down to Lincoln City and beyond. She discovered a huge bear paw print on the back window of her van and she had no idea when that happened. She has her little dog with her, but Bailey didn't bark, so it must have happened while she was out hiking. Scary!
Dave has continued to make changes to his golf cart. Now he has installed a roof rack so he can haul larger items! Is there no end to the changes he is making?
I have spent the rest of the week getting caught up around the place. On Thursday, we headed into Hillsboro to attend my high school class luncheon. We get together once a month for that. We are having our 60+2 class reunion in September where more classmates will come.
Well, that's all my news. Take care!
