IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Here is what's up at our place.
On Monday morning we ran into Portland, as Dave had an appointment at the VA with his oncologist. We met with his doctor to discuss the next cancer treatment. He has undergone his ten chemo treatments and so the doctor wants him to do this new treatment that uses radiation. It is injected into his blood and somehow the radiation finds the cancer cells in his body and kills them. The only hitch is that they will only give the treatment to patients whose PSD levels are up and show no significant downward level. Right now, Dave's are at a plateau and he needs to get another blood test to see where it is going. He tried to get a blood test while he was at the VA, but they were so busy we had to give up and go downstairs for the doctor appointment. We will go to Camp Rilea in Warrenton to do it sometime next week. There is also a supply shortage for this new medical treatment, so we don't know when (or if) they will start the treatment. Otherwise, the doctor says he will go back on chemo. Dave's not crazy about that prospect, but if it's that or nothing, he'll do it.
Since we were going to go to Dave's high school reunion on Tuesday, we stayed with Lara at her condo for the night on Monday night. Her girls were out camping with their father at Carson Hot Springs for the week, so she had plenty of room. We went to the class reunion luncheon out in SE Portland. It was not the nicest part of town that I have been to, but that's all that was available to them. Dave visited with a lot of his old classmates and of course, I didn't know anyone but managed to carry on. Most of his classmates are hard of hearing and with the noisy atmosphere it wasn't easy to carry on a conversation. Still, Dave enjoyed seeing what few classmates are still around and he put a couple of miles on his cane, walking around and visiting with people. After we left there, we had one errand to run and then it was off to the coast where it was 20 degrees cooler.
I took this picture of our granddaughter Jaysa's cat. As you can tell from the photo, he's sitting next to an air conditioner and he's just a big as it is! He is huge and feels like 25 pounds when I pick him up! He has a mind of his own and if he doesn't want you to pet him, he will grab your arm and start biting! Nice cat!
I had to go get a sonogram on my leg. I had a blood clot but it wasn't life threatening. The doctor told me to take a low dose aspirin and apply heat. Within a day the pain was gone. While I was talking to the doctor, complaining about all my aches and pains, I asked him why I had those. He told me I had "TMB" and since I had never heard of that, I asked what that was. His response? "Too Many Birthdays!" Ha! Ha!
Today, we are leaving to attend the annual steam meet up on the Columbia River and we are taking the steamboat, although we won't launch it. Dave still hasn't been able to find the source of what is causing it to run very slow. I mean, even slower than usual. We had the steam boat in the water so it was a matter of towing it to the dock and retrieving it out of the water Wednesday evening. We had so much trouble doing that, it was almost dark before we got it on the trailer and headed back home. The winch wouldn't "winch" properly and then once Dave got that fixed, it wouldn't pull the boat all the way on the trailer for it to lock in place! Still, we lashed it onto the trailer with lots of rope and made it back to our place with no problems. So now, we need a new winch! I spent some time on Thursday cleaning all the scum off the side of the boat from being in the river. So hopefully, we won't have any more problems as I am pretty sure we have used up most of our bad luck.
That's all the news my way, I hope everyone is enjoying the summer weather and not complaining because it is hot. It will be raining soon and then you will only have memories!
