IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
It was a busy week, preparing for the family to be here for our birthday celebration.
First of all, Jason, Leslie and I helped to get the steamboat in the water. Hurray!! The Captain Bell finally got launched Friday evening! But all is not perfect; it was all Jason and Dave could do to get her to her dock. Something about the engine not getting enough lubrication. They got her there, but there was no giving boat rides on Saturday. But she is in the water now and Dave is trying to reason with her that she needs to shape up and sail right! Hopefully, things will work out.
Dave and I decided that since we were both turning 80 this year that it called for a celebration. The girls jumped right in and did all the work, sending out invitations, preparing the food (which was a banquet by the way) and putting up decorations. The family came down on Friday night in preparation for our big "160th" birthday celebration. We had every bed filled. We had a huge turnout and were glad that everyone could come, near and far. The Kahrs offered their wharf, which made the party so much nicer. The weather was beautiful that day and all that space gave people a chance to spread out. We estimate there were about 50 people there. Needless to say, it was a big day for me. I got too much sun and visiting with friends and family wore me out. I was in bed by 9:30!
Since Dave is on the board at the Nehalem Valley Historical Society, he has a set of keys and is giving our aerobics friends at the pool a tour of the museum this morning. It is an interesting place with lots of history about our area. The latest is the shipwreck exhibit which tells the story of some beeswax that was found from a sunken ship.
The rest of this week I kind of laid low, I didn't do any yard work because it was too hot and the mosquitoes where eating me alive every time I ventured outside.
So this will be a short journal this week.
