IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
This has been the slowest week ever!
On Sunday, our ex-son-in-law, Greg came down to do some yard work for me. He brought our youngest granddaughter, 14-year-old Jordyn, who helps him. She is a really hard worker and in two days, they had trimmed all the bushes in the yard and trimmed up three hedges around here! Thank goodness the weather wasn't too hot (75 degrees) and the yard looks great!
They didn't spend all their time working around here though. They took a couple of trips to the beach and explored the graffiti bridge up near Short Sand Beach. We had fun seeing them.
We lost our kitty cat this week. He was hit by a car while he was out prowling around at night. He was a feral but this was his home and I fed him. I will miss him. He and his brother Tom adopted us 7 years ago. Tom was the adventurous type and didn't last very long, but Jerry, who was normally very cautious, made it seven years before he used up the last of his nine lives. Sofie, the neighbor cat who Jerry hung around with, was distressed and knew something had happened. It's amazing how they sense things.
One of our front windows needed to be replaced as the seal had failed between the panes and it kept fogging up. So I called to get on the waiting list. I expected it would be awhile before my turn came, but no. A week later they came out and measured the window and the following week it was replaced. While they were replacing the window we discovered under the window sill, a place where the rain soaked in the wood and it was all rotten. But they used a little VulKem to fill the hole and that fixed that up. We also got our rain gutter downspout drain fixed. It was rusted out and when it rained the water just gushed out the hole in the gutter! Living at the coast is really hard on structures with all the rain and wind we get.
I can sure see the difference in the traffic when it is hot in the valley. Everybody - I mean EVERYBODY - heads for the beach. Sometime we have to wait a long time just to get on Highway 101 from our street. If I have an appointment, I usually take the back way instead of Highway 101. I stopped at Freddie's to pick up a few things the other day and the parking lot was full! I ended up parking in a disabled spot for wheelchairs only! We have had a marine layer over the inland areas of the coast for the last few days because of the heat in the valley. That means it is as much as 30 degrees cooler here than the triple digits along the I-5 corridor. No wonder everyone is here!
My vacuum quit working the other day and ordinarily, when something like that happens, I get Dave to fix it for me. But he has been super busy with a bunch of projects with deadlines and I didn't want to bother him, so I decided to fix it myself. It takes quite a bit to get me to tear into a machine, but I thought, "How hard can it be?" Well, just a little harder than I thought it would be. I thought I had it fixed, but after I put it back together, it wouldn't run. Dave came in about that time and took over. Even he took the better part of two hours to get it fixed. I learned a couple of valuable lessons on that project. Never be afraid to tackle any job and when you do, remember how it came apart so you can put it back together again! Oh well, at least I have a working vacuum cleaner again,
My bees haven't been around for a couple of weeks since the bee folks came and got the last batch. What happened was - after they took my box to relocate the bees - my bee bait box was left out on a picnic table and the ants invaded it. I'm sure they thought they found the Mother Lode!! It was washed out and returned to me, but the bees haven't been interested in coming back. It sure was fun watching them going in and out of the hive depositing their pollen. Maybe they will return again, I sure hope so.
The girls are putting on a birthday party for Dave and I to celebrate our 160th birthday! That would be 80 for me and 80 for Dave. I swear the whole town will be here, plus family and close friends. Be here Saturday afternoon if you can, but if you miss it, I will have pictures next week.
Well, August is just around the corner and it's hard to believe autumn is too. We just got our summer! Take care and stay cool!
