IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Pickup Hello everyone, I hope you are having a nice summer. I have been busy cleaning up the "jungle" of a yard I have. Since the weather has been nice, I manage to fill one garbage can and spend one hour cleaning up a day. I have been told to "stop before I drop", so that's my limit. It is really frustrating to only accomplish so little, but I am not as young as I used to be. In fact, the arthritis in my hands lets me know when to stop. Another thing that helps - I got Dave to help me move the load up to the compost pile. He had built a seat for the back of the golf cart and the floor makes a dandy pickup truck bed. Strapping the garbage can on the cart and riding it up the hill is much better than the old way!

Carl We have been fighting a mole in our yard and so we got Carl the "mole man" over and he set up a trap and caught it! I had mole mounds all over my flower beds and the mole was creating havoc, so I am glad to get rid of that thing.

We have been having lost and found around here. Dave misplaced his keys to our post office box, we couldn't find his jacket and he still can't locate the steam gauge he uses to test the boiler on the boat. I found two out of three, so I think that's pretty good. I'll leave the steam gauge for him to find. It is one of those things that, if you don't put it back where it belongs, you will not have it when you need it.

Boats They're back!! The fishing season has begun and we have fishing boats in the bay. Dave saw a couple of salmon caught the other day - right in front of our house. So the fish are out there. I hope it is a good year because, for the past several years, there have been fewer and fewer fish each year. If there's another bad year, we expect the government to make some changes to the fishery, and none of us wants that. So, we're hoping for fish.

Jake Our granddaughter, Jadyn was down to work on her camper/van on Monday and Tuesday. The van is coming along with the addition of a sink and toilet. She and Dave were in the plumbing department at the hardware store and she saw a piece of plumbing equipment she thought would make a dandy hat! She has been doing a lot of sanding and painting of the cabinets, so it is coming along. She wants to be done by the end of August so she can use it while the weather is good.

Speaking of sanding and painting, I got busy and sanded the top of the deck rails and then painted them. The old paint was peeling and it needed to be done while the weather was nice. The weather down here at the coast is really hard on painted surfaces and it seems we are always adding a coat of paint to something.

Window Dave has been busy working on his projects. The list grows daily! I helped him with one project. He made a frame to sit inside a window so that Lara could use her air conditioner during the hot weather. She sleeps on the third floor and it gets pretty warm up there. He didn't have a piece of glass big enough, so he used six smaller panes that came from the old church. After he was finished with it, I painted it. He hates painting. He has several projects going at once, so I don't know which project he is working on. I know he wants to get the steamboat up and running so he can launch it before long. He is also working on the fishing boat, the golf cart, Jadyn's van, the flatbed trailer and a ship's compass. And those are just the big jobs! He is on the Board of Directors of the Historical Society and is also Treasurer, so with all that, and more, he has no problem keeping busy.

I got my bee bait box back. A swarm of honeybees had moved into the box soon after I got it and so, after the beekeeper relocated them to a place where they can earn their keep, the box was returned to me and now I'm just waiting to see if I can go two-for-two in attracting bees. It is so interesting when they do show up and I have learned so much about honeybees. The box is baited with Lemongrass scent (a honeybee favorite) and I'm anxiously waiting for the first "scouts" to show up and lead the rest to my box.

We're just a week away from our 160th birthday party. The girls decided they wanted to celebrate us making it to 80, so they found a date between our birthdays and anyone who wants to come celebrate with us on Saturday the 30th is welcome. If you're in the neighborhood, come on down! We'd love to have you join us.

Well, that's my story for this week. Take care.
