IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!
Now that the weather has been sunny and warm, I have been spending a lot more time out in the yard, trying to get caught up with the weeds. It sure feels great to have the sun again. My garden seems to be enjoying it too, as I have tomatoes coming on, as well as green beans and cucumbers.
Our plan was to get the steamboat in the water right after the parade on the 4th, but it wasn't quite up to the task. It was okay to steam it up and blow the whistle in the parade, but asking it to run in the water? It just wasn't quite ready for that. Hopefully, this week.
We were invited last weekend to take a steamboat ride with friends who live in Washington. It was about a three hour trip from our house to theirs. Harv and Kim live on Lake Nahwatzel and so they have access to steam their boat all of the time. Instead of staying overnight with them, because the bedrooms are in a loft and there was no way Dave and I could climb up that ladder, we decided to make reservations at the Shelton Inn. The inn was managed by a very disorganized Chinese couple and it took us nearly a half hour just to get registered. He looked at the computer like it was an alien. But we finally got our room. Later that night we were interrupted by another guest who told us that room had been registered to him! It was a bit disconcerting when he just walked into the room. He left to get things figured out and soon after, the management showed up and wanted to know why we were in that room. Dave told him something like, "because this is the room you gave us!" We showed him our key and he left - mumbling to himself. I guess they got it sorted out. We stayed in the room and were not interrupted again.
The steam trip that our friends had suggested started on the Chehalis River near Montesano at Friends Park, where we ventured off the river and onto a series of interconnected sloughs for a four hour steam ride. It was so much fun and relaxing as we chugged along. About mid-way on our trip we moored to a piling and ate our lunch. We saw no one the whole time we were in the slough. The route has a lot of logs and snags, so we had to be careful and keep a watch out. That was Kim's job. She kept us away from the obstacles and we had no problems. After we returned to the dock, we headed back home. Dave had his GoPro, his iPhone and the drone, so we got lots of pictures. As soon as he gets them edited, I'll post link to the video - hopefully next week.
I have been keeping an eye on my bee project. There was so much activity going on in the hive and it was time to remove it and start with another hive. The bees are fascinating to watch and I am learning so much about bees. Did you know that the bees are the only insect that produces food for humans?
That's all that has been happening my way. I hope you are having a nice summer.
