IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Let's see, what happened this week? My memory seems to fail me sometimes and I really have to think hard! It couldn't have anything to do with age!
As I wrote last week, Dave found a ship's compass in the local want ads and so now he has another project. The compass came without a binnacle, the stand it sits on in a ship. So now, he is building a replica binnacle out of a large cardboard tube and some redwood he saved from a hot tub we had at one time. He never throws away ANYTHING! It drives me crazy, but this time it paid off for him. Except that he had to store the wood for 30 years before he was able to use it. He has ordered some 4-inch steel balls (Kelvin's Balls - it's missing them) and will paint them red (port) and green (starboard) and will support them on the binnacle to complete the look when it is all completed.
Jadyn was down on Monday and Tuesday to work on her van. She and G-Dad got the flooring in and it really turned out nice. She will install a bed frame next and put in cabinets and drawers. Dave is doing a video of the project so he spends time editing and doing voiceovers as they will put it on YouTube when each installment is ready. I should have an address for Part One of the video series on here next week.
I suggested that she get a guard dog for companionship as well as safety on the trips she will take when she finishes the van. I am looking into dogs that have flunked police academy to see if they might have a "flunky" she might adopt. We will see.
We had Dylan and his wife over for dinner last week and afterward, he raved around the lumber yard (where he works) at what a good cook I am! So the word is out and now, we are hosting his boss for dinner this week! His boss is single and I'm told that he lives off microwave "Hot Pockets" for many of his meals. Anyway, when he comes to dinner, I am going to place a Hot Pocket on his plate as a joke!
I wish Mother Nature wouldn't be so stingy with the sunshine. It has been so damp and rainy around here that the only thing that seems to grow are the weeds! I have all kinds of plants in the greenhouse waiting for the weather to make up its mind. I have planted my snow peas twice and have nothing coming up yet and they actually like the cooler weather. Maybe the birds and other wild critters are digging them up! It is really frustrating.
We will be going into Leslie's for Mother's Day. Trying to work out a time and date was a real job because there are three birthdays in the mix. My daughter, Leslie's birthday is the 11th, my granddaughter, Jaysa's birthday is the 12th, and my son-in-law, Jason's birthday is the 13th, plus Mother's Day! As they get older, it get seems to get harder for everyone to get together. Anyway, we will be going into Salem to celebrate. I hope you have a great Mother's Day too.
