IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
We have had a busy time this week, with lots of company.
Lara and Kevin came down over the weekend and boy did we put them to work! They moved bed mattresses, an old brass bed and helped Dave with Jadyn's van that she is making into a camper. They had to crawl inside and cut the plywood to shape because Dave can't get himself wrapped up that any more! They probably won't be back after all the work we piled on them! However, they did take a break and drove up Neah-kah-nie Mountain to check out the view and then toured the bottom of the Short Sand Bridge for graffiti. All that graffiti is under the roadway on Highway 101. Who knew? Well, obviously a lot of people with spray cans knew, but we never had a clue that was down there.
On Monday and Tuesday, Jadyn returned to work on her van (with G-Dad's supervision). She got the insulation on the floor, made the support for the plywood that goes on top of the insulation and put the plywood in place. She bought some flooring so hopefully she will tackle that next week. Dave's nephew Luke came by and helped out as well. Once the flooring goes on, she'll be ready to start building the bed. The plan is for that to have space underneath for a slide out stove and a bunch of storage. So she and G-dad have been exchanging texts so they can be ready to hit the ground running when she gets here next week.
On Tuesday afternoon, Dave's cousin, Dennis and his new bride Yvette came down from Astoria. They were married on Saturday and had a short honeymoon in Astoria. They arrived for dinner and we had a nice visit with them. His new wife is very charming and Dennis has known and kept in touch with her and her family for 30 years as a friends. Since Dennis lost his wife a couple of years ago and Yvette has been "single" for 12 years, they decided that they wanted to be together.
Then on Wednesday night, we had a young couple over for dinner. Dylan works at Nehalem Lumber and has befriended Dave. Dylan has been so kind to Dave, making sure he gets good quality wood when he's buying and going into his private stash at home when the lumber company doesn't have what is needed. He and his wife, Kirstie hosted us for dinner at their place in Tillamook a while back, so we wanted to return the invitation while thanking Dylan for being a good friend.
We drove over to the valley on Thursday to attend my monthly high school class luncheon. We had quite a turn-out of 18 people this time. It seems like every month we seem to have lost another classmate, so we have to cherish the ones that can make it. We are planning our 60th plus 2 class reunion this fall (we had postponed it two years in a row because of Covid) so we are hoping that we can make it this year.
Our neighbors across the field from us have chickens and every afternoon they make a trip to our house to peck around. There are about five of them and I am hoping that they would drop an egg or two while they are out and about at our place. Anyway, there is one really crazy chicken in that group. It is black with a kind of white feather top. I thought you might want a laugh for the day!
The other day, Dave came to me and said he was going to go look at a ship's compass he saw advertised in a local classified. After a lot of discussion, I agreed that if he really wanted it, he could buy it. It's big, heavy and expensive! Well, sure enough, he came home with it. The light didn't work, so he's already repaired that. He plans to build a binnacle - the part the compass sits on - to get it looking like it would if it was on the bridge of a ship. Something else to keep him occupied - as if he didn't already have too many projects!
Take care!
