IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Sorry this is late, but we were away for Thanksgiving for a few days and just got back home.

This is week three of my knee surgery and I went into see the PA and had my staples removed on Tuesday. That smarted a bit as there were 24 of those staples that had to be pulled out! My incision was a little red in places, so he gave me some antibiotics to take. Yippee, more pills to take.

On Wednesday, Dave had a VA appointment for his hearing aids. He had them repaired and they were ready to be picked up. That appointment only lasted a few minutes, and we were scheduled to head on down to Salem for Thanksgiving, so Leslie sent Paige and Paigey's new boyfriend to the VA in Hillsboro where they took over the driving duties. Paige drove our car and Briley took his. We made it as far as Wilsonville when we hit a huge traffic jam. Apparently, a garbage truck lost its load all over the freeway! It took us an extra hour to get down to Salem and that was only because we used some back roads. While we were in the car (me with Paige and Dave with the boyfriend, Briley) we got to know them better and what they had been doing in their busy lives.

Also, Ashtin is back home from Florida for a few months while her husband Austin has been deployed to Bahrain. She will be here while she completes some requirements for her Masters. So, it was nice to see her again.

Jan Thanksgiving Jason fixed a lovely turkey dinner for Thanksgiving (as usual). We had a houseful with Lara and her friend Kevin with Jadyn, Jaysa and Jordyn as well as Leslie and Jason with Ashtin and Paige and Jay's mother and sister, Connie and Carrie. We always have more food than we will ever eat and of course we stuff ourselves!

Not all our news is good this week. Dave has been on an experimental study/treatment for his cancer. The first of this last week, his oncologist called to tell us that - through a bizarre set us circumstances - that program has collapsed. Since that was apparently the last real - though small - chance for beating the cancer, it was devastating news. The doctor immediately scheduled some chemotherapy treatments for him, but she had already told us that chemo wasn't going to be very successful as a long-term treatment. So, the remainder of our Thanksgiving Week was spent planning for the possibility of life without Dave. Both girls were with us at the table and we got a good start on the discussion - IF we have to move in that direction. Dave is a Producer, and as such, he likes to have all eventualities covered, even if they aren't needed. Hopefully these plans won't be needed. Chemo begins on December 3rd and we will just have to see how he reacts to that. Prayers, good thoughts, well wishes...all are welcome.

Sorry I couldn't end this on a happier note, but Dave wants everyone to know what's going on.

Talk to you next Friday.
