IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Hello September! It feels like fall is just around the corner, the days are getting shorter and the nights a little cooler. I love this time of year with the change of colors to autumn and the geese getting ready to fly south.

It was a busy weekend for us.

Saturday afternoon we headed over to Battleground, Washington to attend a memorial for Dave's 2nd cousin, Mark Nichols. Mark was a river pilot like Dave's father. He passed away last year but his family decided to hold a celebration of life now. Even with the help of our GPS, it still took us an hour to find their house, so we were late arriving. Most of the food was already devoured, so we picked through what was left for our lunch. There were quite a few of the Nichols clan there and I had forgotten most of their names, so I just sat in the corner most of the time. Dave's cousins Pat and Connie showed up later, (they got lost) so at least I knew them.

We decided to spend Saturday night in town. We were going to attend granddaughter Paige's soccer game in Hillsboro Sunday afternoon and we didn't want to make two trips. We ended up spending the night at our daughter Lara's. She was in Virginia on a trip with some friends for the week, so her bed was free. Jaysa met us over there and made sure we got settled and then we all went out for Mexican food.

After breakfast, we made a stop at the Apple Store at Bridgeport Mall to pick up some charging cords for our phones. They always seem to walk away, so we got smart and put our names on them this time. Those little iPhone chargers are expensive.

Then it was off to the soccer game. Gonzaga was playing Portland State in Hillsboro and Paige got to play. She transferred from Oregon last spring because her coach sat her on the bench all season. I think she got to play 5 minutes all of last season. He never substituted and the starters ended up playing most of the game. It was really frustrating. Anyway, she is having a good season so far at Gonzaga and she really likes her coach and she actually gets to play! Gonzaga ended up winning 8-0. It was such a nice day to be outside and especially sitting in the shade with a cool breeze.

After the game, Paige, of course had to leave for Spokane with her team but at least we got a hug before she left. The rest of us went to Red Robin to celebrate Ashtin's birthday. She turned 22 and was here for the week. She and her husband flew in from from Florida for the occasion. It was good to see her and she seems to be very happy. We all miss her very much.

We made another trip into the VA on Wednesday for Dave to get another infusion for his cancer, a Covid booster (number 3) and his 6-month hormone therapy shot, so he had a triple whammy this time and isn't feeling too good right now. While he was doing that, I ran over to Lara's as she was getting back from her trip to Virginia. The grandgirls were all home, so I got to see them too. They actually start school next week.

Remember, last weekend when Dave and Harv took Harv's steamboat down to Toledo? I have to tell a story on Dave. When he was at the wooden boat festival in Toledo, he talked to a guy that was piloting a drone. Dave had lost his drone in the bushes last year and could never find it again. After talking to the guy and doing some homework, Dave decided he would buy himself a new drone that would be better than the one he lost - one he actually thinks he can control!. So he went online and found what he wanted and then - scrolling through the options - found what he thought was a good deal...a $300 drone for $80 (photo #1). So, ignoring the saying that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, he bought it. When the shipment arrived the other day, he anxiously opened the box expecting to see his new toy (photo #2). But - instead of a drone, he got the carrying case for a drone (photo #3) He had mis-read the info about what he was buying! He was very disappointed, but everyone else who has heard the story thinks it's funny! Anyway, now he is going to have to wait until he can save some more money so he can buy the drone that will go in that carrying case. It pays to read the description carefully, Dave.

Speaking of that weekend, here's a link to a 15-minute video Dave made of their trip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xlxNJmxjlE

Oh, one more thing, Dave has a birthday today, so now we are the same age again! Happy Birthday Dave!

Well, that's all the news our way. I hope all is well your way.
