IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
We have been just doing stuff around the place this week. I managed to get some yard work done around here, in spite of the heat. I have been doing a lot of watering too, trying to keep my garden and flowers from dying of thirst.
We have been inundated by tourists because Portland has been having record-breaking temperatures (116 degrees) and our temperatures have been in the 70's. That's high for us, but it's a lot better than the high "hundred-teens". It takes us forever to get anywhere with the heavy traffic. I had a doctor's appointment in Tillamook and it took me 45 minutes (usually 30 minutes) to make it. I was surprised that my blood pressure wasn't higher than 124 when I finally got to my appointment!
Dave and Ray have the deck completed (except the decking that has been backordered). They finished up the skirting this week and put a little gate on the entrance so the dog can be outside with her when she sits out on the deck. Dave will install solar lights around the rail to top it off.
Late addition: The decking has been coming from a discount lumber store in Salem. Jason called this morning with the news that when he went to check on the back-order, he discovered that the stuff we need is no longer manufactured! And us with another 1/3 of the deck to go. So, Dave had Jason take some measurements of something that they did have in stock and decided that he can modify it to match what is already in place. So Jason - bless his heart - loaded it in his truck and delivered it to us late yesterday afternoon. Dave and Ray are going to tackle the job today and hopefully by the end of the holiday weekend, they'll be done.
Dave was also called to duty from our neighbor, Dawn Kahrs. She had ordered some huge boulders for landscaping and needed Dave and his tractor to come and put them in place around her parking lot where she has her chiropractic business. The smaller of the rocks weren't much of a problem for the Kubota, but there were two huge boulders that were more than twice the size of the little ones. The smaller of those two finally got loaded and almost was too much for the little tractor, but he finally got it in place. Then came the biggest one. The rear wheels came up off the ground while loading that one and Dawn had to jump on the back of the tractor to counter-balance it so he could drag/carry the rock to it's place. All in all, a successful job completion for "The little tractor that could", but it was iffy there for a while!
Our cat, Jerry was in trouble this week. I opened the door to feed him his breakfast and he was all huddled down and when I checked him out he apparently had been in a fight and was hurting from all the bite marks. He didn't stick around so I could care for him and I worried about him all day, hoping he didn't crawl off somewhere to die. But he came back the next morning for his breakfast - somewhat the worse for wear. That darn feral cat is going to use up all his nine lives one of these days!
We had to drive up to Seaside on Wednesday to pick up my reading glasses that I ordered for my eye stigmatism. I had been using a pair of Dave's over-the-counter readers and the doctor said that wasn't good enough. I tried reading with the new ones and noticed a slight headache, but we will see If that goes away before I go back to the Ophthalmologist.
While we were out and about, we decided to drive to Hillsboro to pick up Dave's new suit. A rather embarrassing happened to him while we were doing that. He tried on the suit pants and when he came out of the dressing room, the you woman who was helping him told him to walk over and look in the mirror. On his way to the mirror, the pants (without belt or suspenders) dropped straight to his ankles! He hauled them back up and life went on, but it was an awkward moment for all concerned. He got the suit to wear to Ashtin's wedding. (That is coming up - it's only three weeks away). He also took me out to Stanford's for an early birthday dinner. We had Caesar Salads and Lemonade. My birthday is today and it is hard to believe that I turned 79!
We are not having the whole family down for the 4th of July as we have in the past. Once again this year, there is not going to be a parade and besides, Jason and Leslie have to take Paige up to Spokane to get ready to go to school at Gonzaga. She is going early to begin soccer training. Lara and the girls are coming for a couple of days, so we will have some company.
Well that's all the news my way; I hope you have a great 4th!
