IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!

My, what beautiful weather we have had this week! I kind of wish we would get a little rain as things are really drying out. But it has been nice to spend time outside doing some yard work and planting flowers. The snow peas that I planted in March are peaking out of the ground. I had to put up a barricade so the cat wouldn't get into the planter and use it as a litter box. My Forsythia bush is all abloom and the trees are budding out. Spring is one of my favorite seasons.

Dave has been busy with the apartment. He wants to put a deck in the front but I reminded him that there is a leaky water line that runs under the ramp that leads into the church. If (when) we get a leak in the water main, 99 percent of the time it will be right there where the new deck will be. It doesn't make any sense to build something over a known trouble spot, knowing that if he puts a deck over that area, he might have to end up removing some of it to repair a leak. We have had to repair a broken pipe in that very spot already this spring. So he has decided to put a whole new water line there - from the meter to well beyond the problem area - and that should fix that. Then he can build his deck. Dave had to get the tractor out to remove a Juniper bush where he wants to build the deck. Wow! That stuff is tough to get out of the ground. Ray finished the small window in the bedroom so that in the summer months when it is warm in the apartment, the window can be opened to provide some cross-ventilation. I get to paint the frame this weekend while the weather is still nice. Ray has also been working on the stairs. He had to fill in the edges of the stairs where the sheet rock didn't meet the stair treads. It's tedious work but it has to be done.

I have to tell you a story that happened this week. After our work party at the park on Tuesday, my friend Patricia and I were getting ready to call it a day when we noticed this guy who was acting kind of strange right down there at the park. We didn't know if he was on drugs or what, so we left together just to be on the safe side. When I got home I noticed that this same guy was helping Dave shovel dirt from the water line trench. He had walked up to where the guys were and had asked them for work. To talk to him he seemed really nice and he just wanted to make a few bucks and so Dave handed him the shovel. After he was through, I gave him some water and Dave gave him a few bucks and he headed south towards Tillamook. I don't know if he rides the bus or walks but it is a good distance to walk. It made me feel bad because I had misjudged him.

Chippy

We went out for fish and chips this week. There is a real nice food cart located right on the river in Nehalem so we can sit outside and eat our meal. It was very relaxing; listening to the birds and looking at the scenery.

Another thing that has me wondering. Every morning around 8:00 we can count on a guy in a boat going by on the river trying to scare all the Cormorants away. The Port of Nehalem hires this guy to do this - to try to protect the fishery. Apparently the birds like the tiny salmon that have hatched out. It is such a waste of time and effort because the Cormorants come right back after he is gone. Some guy in a boat is not going to frighten them away for long.

Well, that's all my news; I hope you are enjoying the sunshine as much as I am.
