IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Let's see, what did I do this week?
I mostly hung out indoors and watched the rain come down and the wind blow. It was a cold week! Luckily, only a blink of power outage, just enough to require the clocks to be reset. We were lucky that we escaped the worst of the winter weather in this storm. Over in the valley, they had some snow, but even worse - they had ice. Freezing rain coated everything with ice and as a result, trees were dropping everywhere. Our daughter Lara, who lives in West Linn, was without power for a several days due to a tree falling on their electricity lines. She and the granddaughters had to room with the girl's father in his one-bedroom apartment until the power came back. He was the only one in the entire region that had power! Our other daughter, Leslie, was also without power for a couple of days. She lives in West Salem. Not fun! We told them "welcome to our world" as we are the ones who usually lose power during these storms.
Sunday was Valentine's Day. We don't do much - just our usual exchange of cards. I thought the cards we got for each other were especially nice this year. I couldn't resist throwing in a little chocolate to help celebrate the day as well.
I did help Dave do some more cleaning and organizing down in the church. I brought all the 5-gallon pails that the crew used for mixing paint and plaster and cleaned them out. We took a load of trash over to the dump and that made a little more room to move around inside the work area and I think they will be able to find their tools too.
I also helped Dave as we re-installed the over-head lights in the church workshop. He has about a dozen or so LED lights which he had to take down when the crew came in to install insulation and sheetrock around the apartment. Hanging the lights is a two-person job, Dave on the ladder and me hoisting the light up in place so he can screw it in. He made me a special holder for the light so I could do my job while standing on the floor. We also had Ray frame a couple of doors for his "Man Cave", so that is done.
We finally received our Christmas package that Tina, our exchange student from Germany had mailed on November 7th! I don't know why it took three months to get here. She had e-mailed us after Christmas and asked if we had received her package and since the answer was "no", she had to file an insurance claim. Our mail system has really gone "downhill" these past months. I ordered some medication from the VA for Dave and it was almost two weeks before it arrived! Whatever happened to that old saying, "Rain, snow, sleet or hail, the mail must go through"?
We did start back to our water aerobics classes. It sure felt great to get back in the pool and see old friends again! The County lifted the ban because our numbers for Covid had dropped. Even some of the restaurants are opening up again! Now - watch for all the tourists to swarm down here and the numbers will go up again.
Weil, that's about it for us, stay safe and keep warm!
