IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Day. It felt strange not getting together with our family this year. We were invited to join the family in Salem and have dinner but too many people were going to be there and we felt uncomfortable being around so many. So, I bought an 18 lb. turkey (I don't know what I was thinking) and made a Thanksgiving dinner at home. It just wasn't Dave and me but our contractor, Luis and a couple of his crew who were down working on the apartment, so they joined us for dinner at a social distance. It was a new experience for the Cubans, as of course, they don't celebrate our holiday. But they DO like turkey. Luis' birthday is Saturday, so we celebrated early with a candle on his pumpkin pie!
I love this time of year with all the fall colors. I have a tree just outside my kitchen window that gets very colorful.
We have been staying close to home most of the week. I had to go to Seaside for a follow-up appointment for my cataract surgery (everything is good!) and there was one trip to Tillamook to pick up some extra groceries at Fred Meyer, but other than that, I've been staying home and only getting outside to rake leaves when the wind wasn't blowing and the rain wasn't...well...raining.
The apartment project is coming along. Most of the walls have been painted, the plumbing is mostly in, and they are working on putting up the sheet rock around the exterior. Dave has been doing the electrical. Next week, the countertops will be installed. I think I have decided on the flooring for the kitchen and the bathroom. It's a vinyl tile called "Starry Light" and we'll get it through Home Depot where Dave qualifies for a 10 percent veteran's discount.
It is hard to believe that the Christmas holiday will be here in less than a month. I haven't even started my letter, let alone putting up any decorations. Of course we're just past Thanksgiving, but some people in our neighborhood already have trees up and lights on their house. So maybe next week we will play "catch up with the neighbors"!
Even though Thanksgiving has been low key this year, I still have plenty to be grateful for. The sun still comes out, the birds still sing and we have our health and comfort from each other.
