IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Hidey-ho out there! It's been a nice week and hope all is well your way. The weather has been beautiful, but chilly. It's time to get out the flannel sheets!
Jason and Leslie were down here last weekend. They were out fishing and crabbing in Garibaldi and had time to come down to our place and help Dave take the steamboat out of the water. They had to tow it down to the launching dock as the boat wouldn't back up to move it. That's another job for another day. Anyway, Leslie, Dave and I met Jason at the city dock after he towed it from Kahrs' dock and between the four of us, we got it on the trailer and it is now in the boat barn for the winter.
We have had the Cubans down here most of this week. They dismantled Dave's cave and moved everything down to the first floor of the church. We need that room for the bedroom of the apartment. Dave was a little depressed about having to move, as he had put a lot of labor and love into his cave to make it just right. But, he will carve out some room on the first floor of the church and he's going to put in a bathroom as well, so it may actually be better than Cave Number One.
While we were in Warrenton this week, we also looked at carpet samples and floor tiles for the apartment. We had a change order to have the pantry widened and now we will use that space to put in a small washer and dryer. I think with all the cabinet space we have in the kitchen, we don't really need a pantry. So the crew has been busy re-framing that space, as well as doing the plumbing, so things are moving along.
After only a couple of years, my microwave oven is toast. It began failing a couple of months ago - one button at a time. It got to where I couldn't select a run time other than 55 seconds because the "five" button was the only one that worked. And now, that one doesn't work either, so I can't select anything to get it running. I called the appliance repair shop and they said it would cost more to try to repair it than to just replace it. So, I started shopping online for a new one. But the problem is, I wanted a white one and almost all of the microwaves out there are either black or stainless. So my options were limited. The oven is built into the cabinetry and requires a trim kit to make it look good around the edges. We wanted to be able to use the old trim kit, so I had to find something that was about the same dimensions as the old one. So, between the size of the hole in the cabinet, the trim size and the fact that I wanted it in white, the selection was pretty narrow. I went a couple of days without the microwave and discovered that I really rely on one of those in the kitchen, so we decided to go shopping. Dave had to get some repair work done on his car in Warrenton, so we got the repair shop to shuttle us to Home Depot while they were working on the Ford. At Home Depot, we finally settled on a new microwave: a Magic Chef that is approximately the same size as the old one and we brought it home. It took some modification to the trim kit to make it look good but at least we got it in the cabinet and working, so I now have a new microwave. Let's see if this one lasts more than a couple of years!
Don't forget to set your clocks back on Sunday. I hate that job, as it seems we have so many clocks to set back. Then there is Halloween. We don't have many trick-or-treaters around here so I don't have to worry much about that.
I am looking forward to seeing my younger sister, Jeanne. She is coming over from Colorado to spend a week with us. I haven't seen her for a couple of years. We hope that we will be able to see - or at least Facetime - our other sister, Judy who is in memory care in Portland. I will let you know how that goes.
Take care.
