IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Where does the time go? It's already the middle of August! It's been another busy week.
Last weekend, our ex-son-in-law, Greg and two of our granddaughters, Jaysa and Jordyn, came down to help their dad with some pruning that I had asked him to do. He is a super pruner and I needed some shrubs and trees pruned. He didn't quite finish and promised to be back next month to do some more. We have a lot of shrubs and trees around here and I couldn't begin to get them shaped up. The girls were a big help as they gathered all the branches and limbs and put them in the trailer to be hauled off. They spent the night and then on Sunday they went down on the beach. Unfortunately, Sunday was a different day weather-wise and it was too windy for them to enjoy it.
I got Angel and Irina (the Cuban couple that is helping with the apartment project) to help me whack back some ivy and do some pruning where I couldn't reach. Greg and the girls got me in the mood to get some other yard work done around here. This week I also cleaned out the bed along the house. The violets had taken over and I needed to get them thinned.
We went out for fish and chips in Nehalem and at the edge of the outdoor seating area I spotted a door that was free for the taking! So, we came home with a door for the inside leading up the stairs to the apartment. It was really heavy and it took both Dave and I to lift it up and place it in the back of the Ford. It is about 7 inches too tall and and another 2 inches wide, but Dave says he can re-frame the existing opening and make it fit. It also needs a new paint job and some repair on the hinges. Dave started working on it as soon as we got it unloaded but this is going to take a while. But, it will look real nice once it is installed. I can't turn away anything that is free.
We counted 50 fishing boats in the bay at one point last weekend. A lot of boats and a few fish caught. The Columbia River doesn't open for Salmon fishing until this weekend, so most of the fishermen are trying their luck here while waiting to go there.
Jason and Leslie were here overnight. They brought their boat down to our place so when the Columbia opens up this weekend, they will be ready to go. While they were here, Jason, Leslie and Dave went salmon fishing out in the bay with our little boat. Unfortunately, they got skunked. Meanwhile, Jason decided that he would come down yesterday with his camper. That way he won't have to come all the way back to our place each day after fishing. He found a place that he could camp and keep the boat so that will save him time running back and forth to our place. I think Dave will drive to Warrenton on Sunday to go out fishing with Jason.
My vegetable garden is growing, we had fresh green beans and beets the other night for dinner and some tomatoes. Nothing like fresh picked veggies from your garden. Yumm!
Well, that's my life this week. Hope you are staying safe and healthy.
