IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
So sorry this is late, my webmaster went fishing and I had to wait until he got back to post my journal.
Can you believe that the month of July is gone? It won't be long until it will be fall. The month did bring us some nice weather and it gave me a chance to get outdoors and enjoy the sunshine. The only problem with that is having to find time to water my flowers and garden.
Speaking of the garden, I thinned out my beets and as a result, had my first batch of beets and greens the other night at dinner time. I love beets; it's like eating candy to me. I have had a couple of tomatoes, some lettuce and peas too. The deer trimmed my green beans for me and ate the tops of my strawberries. Those darn sneaky animals!
We had guests for the weekend. Jadyn had asked us if she could bring some of her friends down, so all five of them showed up on Friday afternoon. We really didn't have to worry about social distancing because they were gone most of the time while they stayed here. They stayed downstairs and slept til noon each day. We got the fishing boat in the water and gave them a ride to Nehalem for fish and chips one evening. They climbed Neah-kah-Nie Mountain one day, did some shopping at Cannon Beach and Rockaway. No problems with that and they enjoyed their stay with us.
Dave drove to West Salem on Wednesday. He met up with our son-in-law Jason, who got his boat back after having it repainted. He needed some help with some of the electrical systems on the boat, so Dave packed his bag and went to lend a hand. On Thursday, Dave and Jason went ocean fishing out of Newport to try their luck at catching some Halibut. They ended up with one small one but it was better than nothing. So we're having fresh Halibut for dinner tonight!
I pulled weeds at Waterfront Park a couple of days this week. We are clearing out the main flower bed and it has taken all three of us most of the week and we are still not done. There is a lot of grass and overgrown weeds in those beds and it looks like we had never cleaned it out before. All the rain we had in the spring coupled with not being able to get in the park because it was closed didn't help either. A lot of tourists and locals use the park during the summer and there are always the fishermen who park their rigs right next to the grassy area. We still have the other half of the park to go and then we need to move on to the other parks in the city that need weeding.
That ends another week in my life trying to stay healthy and safe. I hope all is well your way.
