IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Jan It rained most of the week so the yard work was slowed down. I did manage to get a work party together on Tuesday (before the rains came) to do some weeding at the city park. I didn't realize how many weeds had taken over the flower beds. We started near the train depot and worked our way around to try to find the roses that are planted along the walkway. The creeping buttercup was so thick that we needed a shovel to pull them out! They were so entwined among the roses that they were really tough. It took me an hour to go ten feet! We came back and fertilized them after we got them cleaned out. Thank goodness we had help because my friend and I couldn't have done it alone. I went back again yesterday, in spite of the fact that it was my birthday and got some more work done. Dave came by and took my picture.

Collage My garden is doing okay, although between the rain and the slugs, I am battling to save some of the plants. I still hope I get some vegetables. The slugs chewed my pepper plant down to a stub even after I put some slug bait out. They got to my lettuce and I'm hoping I can save that. I have one huge tomato that is about ready to pick and I am hoping I can get to it before something comes along and takes a big bite out of it! It is so discouraging to nurture something along like that and then have some critter have it for dinner just before I was going to harvest it. Oh, well. That's gardening. I have carrots coming up in a separate area and I can just see the tips of their plants coming out of the soil. Most of my flowers are doing great. I have a string of Fuchsias in hanging pots alongside of the house and they are looking nice.

We are getting ready for the kids to come down this weekend. My birthday was yesterday so we have two things to celebrate, my birthday and Independence Day! Gosh those birthdays come around quick, it's hard to believe that I am 78 years old already! But I am not complaining, with all the aches and pains I still feel truly blessed to have great friends and family. Leslie came down Thursday afternoon and Ashtin and Paige drove over shortly after that. Jason was Halibut fishing out of Newport and came by when they got back to port. He got one small fish but thought it was too small so he threw it back. Since he didn't bring any fish home, they took me out to get fish and chips in Nehalem. Yum!

Bunting Speaking of the 4th of July, like most everything else, they canceled the parade in Manzanita this year. Since we aren't going to have the steamboat in the parade, we decided to use the banners that are usually boat decorations for the parade and put them out on our deck instead. We look real patriotic!

We are still working on our living quarters in the church. Dave has finished most of the electrical. The sheetrock is almost done but now there is the sanding and an application of the second coat of mud before it's ready to be painted. And speaking of painting, the kitchen cabinets are here and will be painted a light gray - probably next week sometime. We have ordered a stove and a microwave/vent hood and also a sink for the kitchen. We're waiting for those things to be delivered. So little by little, things are coming along.

The pool is open! We were able to start our water aerobics on Monday after having been shut down by CoVid. They have limited the number of people who can be in the pool at any time to just 10 and they have social distancing in effect. I was quick enough to get the two of us enrolled in time to get the Monday, Wednesday, Friday classes. Another 10 people are enrolled on Tuesday and Thursday. Our classes are shorter than before because they have to sanitize the pool area between each session but still, it feels real good to be back in the water again.

One last thing, Leslie and Jason put their house up for sale last week and had an open house over the weekend. Forty-five people came to see their place and they had five offers! So they took the best offer and will have to be out of their place by the end of July. They didn't expect this to happen so quickly so they are busy looking at places in the Salem area. They decided to sell because both the girls are gone to college and they wanted more space to put their boat and camper on. They live on a cul-de-sac and there is no place to park on the street.

Well, that's it folks, have a great 4th of July!!
