IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Duck I hope everyone had a nice Mother's Day. We had Lara and her girls drop by to wish me a nice day. We also had a few birthdays to celebrate. Leslie's birthday was Monday, Jaysa's birthday was Tuesday and Jason's birthday was Wednesday, so it was busy times. Such seemed strange not to have everyone together. Jaysa is so frustrated because she wanted to get her learner's permit when she turned 15, but of course the Motor Vehicle Department has been closed during this CoVid19 time. Now it looks like she won't be able to try for the permit until mid-summer at the earliest. Still, she had a nice birthday and among other things, now has a couple of ducks as pets.

Clock We got a call from the repair shop to let us know our antique marine clock was ready to be picked up. It is a windup clock and the chime spring had broken. This clock is very special as it was given to Dave's father when he retired from the pilots. I have missed the clock while it was being fixed as the chimes always let me know what time it was. Because it is a maritime clock, it took me a while to figure it out. Eight bells is either 4:00, 8:00 or 12:00 and then it starts all over with one bell for each half hour. I always say it's right twice a day, at 8:00!
While we were in town to get the clock, we decided to run a couple of errands. Our first stop was Home Depot and when we got there, we found that the "social distancing" line was clear around the building! It was a 20-minute wait just to get in the place. We decided that it wasn't worth our time and we moved on.

Us, Luis Luis had invited us up to a Mexican restaurant at Sylvan for lunch on Saturday. He and his crew have been remodeling the building. The restaurant was open for drive-up only, but we got to go inside and eat. The owner is a friend of Luis' and he served us the most delicious chicken enchiladas with a wonderful green sauce.

When we left the restaurant, we decided to go home by way of West Salem so we could drop by and wish Leslie and Jason a Happy Birthday. We stayed for a nice visit and then headed back home. It was such a wonderful day to get away for awhile.

in line burgers On our way home, we decided to stop at the Dairy Queen in Garibaldi to get something quick for dinner. When we got there, we were barely able to get into the parking lot and get off the highway. That's how long the line was. Ordinarily, that wouldn't be too much of a problem because those lines usually move pretty well at those fast food places. Well, once we got in line, there was no getting out of it again and so, after waiting for a half an hour to order our food, we were able to pick up our order. We drove to a nearby overlook and ate our dinner. All in all, it took us about an hour at the "fast" food place from the time we drove in until we headed for home. Is this the future?

Garden I got a few things done at home this week. My vegetable garden is now planted, but I still have to plant some vegetables in my plot in the park at the Community Garden. It started raining and so the next sunny day, that will be on my list. Dave discovered one of our slate walking stones under the porch landing, so we had that dug out and put it where we could use it. It was broken but all the pieces were there. At least we will get some good of it.

capbel Dave has been getting the steamboat ready to launch and I believe the city will open the boat ramp today. He has some fine tuning to do on the boat, but he needs to have it in the water to do it. The boat has a new coat of paint and we ordered new lettering for the sides. The lettering won't be ready until next week, so it there's no sense putting the boat in the water only to have to take it right out again for the lettering. Besides, there will probably be a lot of boats trying to launch this weekend and since it takes us a long time to get the steamer in the water, it's probably just as well that we wait until the rush is over. We always try to have it ready for the Manzanita Independence Day Parade but that has been canceled this year. Maybe we will get some steaming in instead.

That's my news for this week. My wish for everyone is to stay safe and healthy.
