IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Just a shout out from my corner of the world and I hope all is well and everyone is keeping their sanity.
We enjoyed the few days of warm weather that we were blessed with. It put me in the mood for spring, so I managed to get over to Fred Meyer and pick up a few annuals to plant. All my favorite nurseries are either closed or it's on-line shopping. I personally want to see what I am buying and pick out the various colors and that doesn't seem to be an option. I got a few geraniums to go in some pots on the deck to plant, but other than that, I will just have to wait to see what happens. No vegetable garden planted yet (except for snow peas) even if the weather is tempting - but it's a little early in the year for me. I try to aim for the middle of May or even Memorial Day.
While I was at Freddies, I filled my car with gas. Between the price of gas going down and the points I have accumulated from buying groceries, I got my tank filled for just over $16.00. That's a buck forty a gallon! It's been a looooong time since I've purchased gas at that price!
We got a pleasant phone call from our oldest granddaughter, Ashtin. She has been accepted into the Ed Program next year at Western Oregon. She will be a senior this fall and is going into education. She will begin student teaching next year. That just doesn't seem possible. We are so proud of her!
I haven't been doing much around these four walls this week. I have had sciatica in my back and legs and haven't felt like doing much. The problem is mostly at night as I can't find a good position to sleep. I have been taking Tylenol when needed and that seems to help for awhile. Sitting up has been easier than lying down so, therefore, I have been doing a lot of reading. I just finished re-reading Alex Haley's "Roots" which took me a few weeks to read. What else could I do when I was pretty much confined to home? Well, in addition to reading, I came up with the idea of designing some of the remaining unfinished space in the church. Dave has his Cave, the grandgirls have some space for their future "She Shack" but the room in the middle has gone unclaimed. Well, I picked up pencil, paper and a ruler and started designing an apartment-sized bathroom and kitchen. After several "what-if's" and "how-about's" I managed to cram a workable kitchen and bathroom into a 9 x 12 space. It will be a long time (if ever) before it actually happens, but it killed some time and I made something that may be real some day!
We have had some guys continuing to work on our place as well as getting the steamboat painted. One corner of the roof on the church never sees the sun at this time of year and so the moss really takes hold there. We had Jaime up on a ladder with a wire-brush on a stick to get it all off. It looks so much better.
Last Sunday was my older sister, Judy's 80th birthday. She is in a memory care facility in Portland and no one is allowed inside. So her kids got to sing happy birthday through the fence. They called me and I got to talk to her over the phone. At one time, we were going to have a big celebration and my other sister was going to come over from Colorado to see her, but that all had to be cancelled.
Every time the phone rings, it seems it is either a doctor or dentist appointment that has to be rescheduled. The calendar has a lot of scribbled-out entries. We also need to get haircuts. As I mentioned to Dave the other day, he will have to start wearing his hair in a ponytail! I have been thinking about letting my hair grow out a little, and now would be the time to do that.
Well stay healthy and remember - we are all in this together!
