IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Well here we are trying to be as "normal" as possible around here. We have been staying at home and only going out when necessary.
The weather has been beautiful this week, a little on the frosty side but nice. The wind was blowing pretty hard for a few days and it stirred up by sinus so I have itchy eyes and a dry throat.
We did manage to sneak out on Sunday for a few hours to attend our granddaughter Paige's graduation party. Paige graduated from high school early. There weren't a lot of people who came but Leslie took precautions with hand sanitizers around anyway. Paige was supposed to start school at the University of Oregon in April and play soccer, but that has been put on hold by the Coronavirus. She hopes to start in the summer, but we will see. We got to see Ashtin who is home from Western Oregon University as her school is also closed. She will take her finals online. Leslie and Jason had to postpone their family trip to the Bahamas as the cruise ship wasn't able to go into too many ports-of-call and who wants to float around in the ocean during your vacation. They hope to go later. Everyone was disappointed as you can imagine as they had been planning this trip for months.
Speaking of cruises, some friends of ours were on a 5-1/2 month trip around the world and their ship got as far as Brazil when the rest of their trip was cancelled. They should be home by now or else quarantined on the ship for awhile.
The other granddaughters, Jadyn, Jaysa and Jordyn are also home from school, so their parents decided to be a little more trusting and let Jadyn drive them down here to visit with us for a few days. We asked them to do that, and Jadyn did just fine on the longest trip she has made since getting her driver's license. It also allowed their mother a little "me" time (you can only put up with teenagers for so long!) While they were here we had projects for them to do. Jordyn helped me make cookies, Jadyn washed my front windows and we planted some vegetable seeds in small pots to be transplanted into her garden later and Jaysa and Jordyn made a bird house in Granddad's shop with his help. They went to the beach a couple of times but most things were closed, so they were stuck with their boring grandparents. Jadyn and Jaysa have been making bracelets out of knotted thread and that kept them occupied for a while as well.
I have been to the store a couple of times in the past week and the shelves are really empty. People are running out and hoarding things like hand sanitizer and toilet paper. Even with buying limits, those things were nowhere to be found. Dave had two meetings this week and was able to attend both via a teleconference. He was able to sit here in the office and not be exposed to anyone. I guess this is the "new reality" for us for a while. Other than canceled meetings, one other cancellation has affected me. The physical therapy I was getting for my back has also been canceled - at least until the middle of April. We'll see whether it can resume then. We saw on the news where public health officials are prepared to deal with this for up to 18 months! I sure hope it is going to be a lot less than that.
Well, that's about all the stuff we have been doing. I figure we are going to have a long isolation and so I am so thankful I have a gorgeous view and plenty of books to read! Take care.
