IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

I am writing this early this time as we will be gone the rest of the week. Dave has a doctor's appointment on Thursday and then we are heading east to the Tri-Cities. Dave's cousin's wife, Sandra Nichols passed away and so we are going to be attending the funeral. Since it is a long drive, we are planning on spending Thursday night in The Dalles and drive to the funeral in Kennewick, Washington on Friday morning. We will only be there for the service as we are supposed to be back in Portland by 4:30 Friday evening. Dave had ordered a flag pole to replace the one that got trashed in a previous windstorm and we need to pick that up before the store closes. Since it will be late when we get back through Portland, we decided just to spend the night there. Anyway, that is our plan. Then on Saturday, we are attending a 50th anniversary party for some friends of ours in Hillsboro and since it will be late (again), we decided to stay the night in Forest Grove before we head back home on Sunday. So, three hotels in three nights. What a way to start the New Year!

Dave and his theater group performed "It's a Wonderful Life" one last time on Monday. He says he's taking a break from performing for a while as he has been in three of the last four performances. He says his decision has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that this time they did the play from a grocery store. That's right, a grocery store. Actually, the local health foods store in Manzanita likes to have entertainment in a tiny corner of the building the night they are closed. They asked the group to do the play one more time in their space. Dave said it was like performing on a postage stamp, but they pulled it off and it was well received.

On New Year's Eve, we didn't do a lot of celebrating. I did fix a nice turkey dinner (I missed out on Thanksgiving because I had bronchitis), so I decided to fix a turkey for New Year's Eve. We were in bed and fast asleep before the clock stuck midnight but I don't think we missed anything.

We had another wind and rain storm that night - and that was after I had spent two days raking up leaves. I think I got most of the leaves and what was left got blown away to the neighbors in the storm. We also lost our power for a few hours in the middle of the night and so we started the New Year by spending time resetting the clocks the next morning. At least we had power by morning, so was able to fix us coffee!

I haven't taken down the Christmas decorations yet. It is so depressing after everything is down and put away. I guess I will tackle that job next week. So, I will be getting used to writing 2020 and getting back to our regular routine now that the holidays are over.

Hope everyone had a nice holiday and I want to wish you all a healthy, happy 2020.
