ITS FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Yikes, it's been raining cats and dogs around here!! I am sure glad I got my yard work done. Yesterday we had some real violent rain showers. Dave said he was vacuuming the shop and he could still hear the sound of the rain on the roof over the sound of the vac. In fact; the gutters were overflowing, so when that shower passed, he got his cleaning tool out and opened the downspout. I had everything cleaned up, but by the way it looks outside, the leaves are all over the deck and in the yard so it doesn't look like I did a thing! It's fall and I have to show you another picture of my little Japanese Lace Leaf Maple which has changed colors.
Since the weather has been was so nasty, I worked indoors and managed to get the Dog Bag dispensers that Dave made painted for the parks. We painted them a bright yellow with black trim, hoping that they will be noticed and get used! We will turn them over to the Public Works Department and hope they get installed soon.
Speaking of Dave and woodwork, he got our little bridge replaced that sits on top of a French drain in our yard. The old one was getting very rotten and I was afraid to cross it in fear of falling through. A friend of ours has a saw mill and he had him cut some cedar logs in to slabs to use for the bridge and it really turned out nice. Next on that project - replacing the steps in the pathway above and below the bridge. We have eight or nine pieces of wood that came off the sawmill, but Dave is waiting for a nicer day before tackling that job.
We are having this huge Spruce tree cut down that is straddling the property line in the back of our boat barn. The neighbor, Jim King, who owns the property next door, is going in with us to get it removed. It is about 75 feet high and 5 feet in diameter and we are afraid one of these days the wind is going to knock it down. Since the property next to it is vacant, now would be a good time to have it cut down while there is still room to fall it. I think the tree cutter will come this week, but the weather has been so nasty and he may want to wait for brighter skies.
I went to grocery shopping the other day, which isn't news but I had to run into Tillamook anyway for my mammogram. I decided to "bundle" and pick up a few things at the store while I was in town. I arrived at the store, made the usual run through the aisles and then when I went to check out I discovered that I didn't have my wallet on me! I had left it at home in my swimming bag! Although I did have my checkbook and was going to write a check but the clerk wouldn't take my check! I always use my credit card and since I seldom write checks, I didn't have a check writing history with the store. At least, that was his excuse. I didn't have any ID on me (no driver's license either). He suggested that I "run" home and get my ID and then collect my groceries when I returned. I wasn't going to drive 50 miles round trip for my ID, so I told them to keep their groceries! I was so bummed that I had to leave everything and come home. I ended up making a special trip to Tillamook later in the week to get groceries. Go figure!
Well, Halloween is just around the corner, so instead of buying a real pumpkin this year and having to carve it, I decided to take the lazy way out and bought a plastic jack o' lantern with a light instead. I also bought some candy just in case we get some trick or treaters. We usually don't, but we have to be prepared just the same. I guess Dave and I will have to eat the candy if nobody shows up. Oh well!
This Sunday is our oldest daughter, Lara's birthday. It is hard to believe that she is going to be fifty years old. She certainly doesn't look her age - she's as beautiful as ever. I really don't know where the 50 years went; she's still my little girl!
An update on Dave's activities: He's still rehearsing for the upcoming play that begins in November. Wednesday, he joined a crew to paint the set. I know he must really be dedicated to this performance because if there's one thing he hates, it's painting. He'll make things out of wood all day long, but none of them get painted. You could have knocked me over with a feather when he told me he was going over to the theater to PAINT!
And he got a wild hair the other day and decided to buy a drone. It was delivered a couple of days ago and he has been out trying his piloting skills. He tells me he has been doing so-so about learning to operate the thing but he has been hampered with an instruction book that was written in Singapore. If you can figure out what they mean in this one photo, I'm sure he could use some help in the translation! Anyway, so far the thing is still in one piece but it will be interesting to see which comes first - him learning to fly the thing or crashing it.
Oh, and speaking of Dave and his toys, he has finished his YouTube video series on repairing the refrigerator he was given. The three parts are here, here and here.
Lots of pictures this week, so I have been trying to be "word-y" enough to get something between all the photos. Have a good week and stay warm!
