IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Happy fall! I can't believe that another month has slipped away and fall is officially here. It felt like winter on a couple of mornings this week when the temperature was down in the 30's. In some places, they even had their first snow fall! Did we miss fall and are now into winter?
We had a nice visit last weekend when our friends, George and Margie arrived from Redmond to spend some time with us. They brought along their great dog, Barney who is a female and I'll have to tell the story about her name sometime. Anyway, just a great dog to have around and a real help in the kitchen, cleaning up the dishes after our meal! In spite of the fact that they were here for two days, we neglected to take a single picture. So, we dug one out of the archives. They really haven't changed that much over the years anyway!
While George and Margie were here, Dave took George out fishing on Saturday along with a million other boats. Between the fact that it was so crowded out there coupled with problems they had with their line getting tangled all the time, they ended up with no fish. Dave said it was frustrating trying to get any fishing done with the line tying itself up in knots all the time and they spent most of their time just reeling in and undoing big balls of fishing line. He did say that they only saw one fish caught out there all day, so maybe they didn't lose out after all.
Meanwhile, Margie and I took Barney to Short Sand Beach for a nice hike. It was such a beautiful fall day and we had a nice walk through the forest down to the beach. I surprised myself with taking the short walk because of my arthritic knees but I did pretty well afterwards. Unfortunately, I had my head down most of the time so I could watch where I stepped and missed a lot of the beautiful scenery. That evening, after the guys got back with no fish, they took us out to dinner at Kendra's along the Nehalem River. The next morning they left after breakfast as they had to get to back to Redmond. It was nice seeing them and getting caught up with their lives.
Wednesday, we headed over to the valley as Dave had a Blazer broadcast meeting to attend and I always get to go too. We met at the Deschutes Distillery/Restaurant which is in the Pearl District of Portland and after our production meeting, they gave us a tour of the place before they fed us a wonderful dinner. They are one of the sponsors for the Trail Blazers radio broadcasts this year. There were about twelve of us and although I didn't know some of the newer members of the broadcast team, I do know a few that I used to work with when I helped Dave back in the day. The Deschutes people gave us some beer and souvenirs and the Blazers gave us hats and sweatshirts to take home. When we finished there, we packed up our goodies and drove to West Linn to spend the night with Lara and the grandgirls at their place.
As usual, while we are in town, we try to make sure there are other errands to run. We had to stop and exchange the dress shirts we bought for Dave last week. The shirts were way too big on him. Of course, they didn't have the colors he wanted in the new size, so they said they would ship them to us next week. On top of that, the first ones we bought cost more because they were extra large. By going smaller, we got a refund, so it really paid to get that little job done. Next, we stopped at the Credit Union as we wanted to refinance the new Jeep that we bought last spring. We received a sizeable rebate on the purchase price by financing it through Chrysler Capitol. What they don't tell anyone is that after six months, we're free to re-finance without losing the rebate. So, we did. The Credit Union has much lower rates on loans than Chrysler. We are also making the final payment on Dave's Ford Expedition this month but I can't plan on saving that money because he is already considering the possibility of getting a new rig to replace the Ford. We'll see. Anyway, the stop at the Credit Union took longer than we anticipated, so we had to break all speed records to get back home, as I had a haircut appointment at 1:00 that afternoon. I was 10 minutes late by the time we pulled into town, but I had called ahead of time to let my hairdresser know.
While George was here, he showed Dave a new "technical" toy that Dave decided he had to have. It is a monitor and app for the i-Phone that lets us know how much propane we have left in our tank. We have a fifty gallon tank we keep for emergency use for our little stove when the power is out. We always have to go outside to check it to make sure we have enough on hand and sometimes we forget to do that until it is almost too late. No excuses with this little gadget!
On one of the sunny days this week, I managed to get some garlic planted and some daffodils in the ground. I also got daffodils in the planters that are downtown in front of the Post Office so come next spring we will have a nice arrangement to show. We really have to think ahead for some things like that.
