IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Collage We had a great Labor Day Weekend. The weather was good (a little sprinkle and clouds in the morning but the skies cleared up by the afternoon). Lara and her girls came down to spend a couple of days with us. They went on hikes and enjoyed the ocean. We hadn't seen them since July and had really missed them. We celebrated Dave's birthday on Monday before they headed back home.

Collage Dave's birthday was actually Tuesday and the Kahrs' had invited us down for a birthday dinner of chicken enchiladas on the wharf. They got him a bottle of scotch and a dinner certificate at a nice place in Astoria. We will probably go there on our anniversary next week. I got Dave a new pair of suspenders with carpenter designs on it. His other pair was pretty stretched out so he needed a new pair. Lara and girls got him a bottle of scotch so he is well stocked in the scotch department.

Bedroom Also on Tuesday, Luis and Fernando came by and painted our bedroom . I love the new color (Planetary Silver) with the red accessories. Here's a panorama of the whole room from the door to the closet. Luis and Fernando also finished painting the skybridge in all the places that I couldn't reach. They spent the night and did some other jobs that Dave had for them to do. We just about have all our projects on our to-do list completed. They will be back today as they are going to install a new water heater for us. The one we have now very old and it is going to quit on us one of these days soon. We don't want to be without hot water, especially when we have all the granddaughters down here taking showers all the time. Dave also had them run some wire for a motion light underneath the bridge where he couldn't reach. So now the rope lights along the handrail will come on whenever motion is detected.

Speaking of the church, when the granddaughters arrived, the first thing they did was check out the skybridge. They really hadn't spent much time upstairs in the church and now the bridge puts them right there. It didn't take them long to figure out how to match granddad's plans for the "Man Cave" up there and they starting making plans to decorate the other half of the upstairs with furniture for a "Ladies Lounge". Dave just shook his head and closed his eyes! So he may be sharing his church with the granddaughters one of these days! We'll see if they are able to work that project into their already "super-busy" schedules.

Jan Now that we have the skybridge, we have a new view of the boat barn. I never go over on that side and to I had no idea how bad it looked. It didn't take long for me to get busy and clean it up. I pressure washed the side of the building, getting all the spider webs off of it. We couldn't actually see any spiders up there, but the entire wall was wrapped in cobwebs and parts of old insects. It was disgusting and it was way past time for it to be cleaned! While I was at it, I went around the corner and cleaned the big overhead doors. The boat barn actually looks like new again.

Jan It's time to make Dilly Beans! I have been saving some of the larger beans from my garden in hopes of making Dilly Beans and just didn't have enough so it was a trip to three different stores to get enough for six pints. We love Dilly Beans and I can't wait until this winter to try some.

Dave picked up a small refrigerator from a neighbor the other day. He wants to use it in the room nearest the skybridge in the church. It doesn't work (he knew that - that's why it was free), but it's only a few months old and he feels he can get it going once again. He's been doing a lot of research on YouTube and he ordered the part that seems to fail most of the time on this model. It came in the mail yesterday, but he's been too busy to get it installed, so maybe today before Luis shows up with the new water heater.
