IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Summer is about to wind down and everyone will be getting ready for the fall. Some of my granddaughters have already started school this week.
Not a lot happening this week. We got a call from our PUD (Public utilities) that they were going to shut off our power on Tuesday from 10:00 to 1:00. Yes, we paid our electric bill. The utility company has been replacing the poles and wires all along Highway 101 this summer and they finally made it as far as our house. There was a lot of traffic congestion with flaggers stopping traffic so the workers could do their job, so we decided it was time to make a trip up north and get some things at Costco and Home Depot while that was going on. I got some more paint for the sky bridge and for painting the walls in the bedroom.
Speaking of painting, I did get the ceiling in our bedroom painted, it took me two days but I got it done. The ceiling is deeply textured so I had to make sure that I covered all the surface and I also had to dodge the fan that we had put up. While I was painting, I managed to get a paint drip in my eye as I was looking up at the ceiling. Boy did that hurt! But I quickly rinsed my eye several times and I can see okay. I decided that after that experience, I am hiring our contractor to paint the walls. I decided to go with a light silver color to match the deep red color that I have for the lamp shades and bedspread. My new drapes should be coming today. You know how it is, you start painting and then you end up redecorating the whole room! Well, it needed it as it has been over 40 years since it had anything done to it.
Earlier in the week, Leslie and Jason took their boat back to the mouth of the Columbia River to do some salmon fishing and came back with some nice looking fish. It's the height of salmon season right now and Jason has been going out almost every day up there. Leslie however, has to work and so she hasn't had the opportunity to go nearly as much. She almost didn't go, saying she was just too tired to get up at 3:30 in the morning and drive clear up the fishery near Astoria. She did go and you can tell by the look on her face that she's pretty happy she did.
Their daughter Paige got her Senior pictures this week. Gone are the days when we would go to a photo studio in our best clothes for a formal sitting for those pictures. Times have changed! There are about 100 just as good as this so I don't know how they are going to choose just a few. And Leslie has told us that Paige is going to get another group of photos taken in a few weeks which will make the choice ever more difficult!
Thursday was also their other daughter (and my oldest granddaughter) Ashtin's twentieth birthday. That is sure hard to believe. She has been going to school this summer and is a Junior at Western Oregon University in Monmouth. She also works part-time at Safeway as a checker, so is pretty busy. For her birthday, she is flying to Florida to meet with her guy who is in the Air Force and is stationed in Florida and they are going to Disney World in Orlando. I hope they have a great time and the hurricanes stay away. I remember being in Florida and being chased out because of a hurricane.
We have had some really hot weather this week, which we are not used to down at the coast. One day it hit 90 degrees and people from the valley came flocking to the coast to cool off from their 100 degree weather. They didn't get much of a relief. Thank goodness we got a nice rain shower on Thursday so I didn't have to drag out the hose and water anything.
We had to drive into town on Thursday as Dave had an appointment with his neurologist. He raised the dosage on one of the medications Dave is taking for his restless legs, but that was about it. It was another quick trip.
We got some bad news yesterday. We found out that Dave's cousin Pat's husband, Teunis Wyers died earlier this week. Another cousin talked with Pat yesterday and reports that she seems to be holding up pretty well. Not only was Teunis family, but he was also our attorney. He will be missed.
I hope everyone has a nice Labor Day holiday. Lara and the girls are planning on coming down to see us. I haven't seen her and the girls all summer and I am looking forward in getting to see them.
