IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
It's been another crazy week with finishing up with the deck project. The crew was here through Tuesday putting the second coat of paint on the deck and placing supports under the deck. I was "chief cook and bottle washer" for them, so I was in the kitchen a lot! That is finished now and we are all set to go!
After everyone had left, Dave and I went out to eat at the Fish and Chips place in Nehalem. I needed a break after all the cooking I have been doing! It is just a food cart but it is right on the river and the fish is really good! It was a great meal because we took the fishing boat up to Nehalem and tied it to the dock to go and eat. Also, because I didn't have to cook!
Sunday, I tried out my new weed-eater that I got for my birthday. It is battery powered and it sure is nice to be able to get into some of the areas that were unreachable with something that had to have an extension cord attached to it. After I finished with that, Dave and I took the afternoon off and attended the Riverbend Reader's Theater production of Orson Welles "War and the Worlds". It was well done. Dave didn't try out for this play as he wanted to take the summer off, plus he prefers to do comedy plays.
On Monday we had to get up early to head into Portland to the VA Hospital for Dave's doctor appointments. First thing was a blood draw and then he met with a Hematologist/Oncologist who wanted to go over his history on the non-Hodgkins Lymphoma Cancer he had. The doctor told him that most patients who have a re-occurrence of this particular type of cancer will have a return within two or three years after treatment. He was optimistic that since it has been five years since he finished his chemotherapy that he is pretty well in the clear of it coming back. So that was good news. After that appointment we had some time to kill before his next appointment with his prostate cancer Oncologist but luckily she had a cancellation, so we were able to meet with her right away. She was pleased to tell Dave that his blood PSA level was all the way down to "undetectable" so that was great news too. What it all boils down to is that for the first time in six years, Dave is cancer-free.
It sure doesn't feel like July with all the rain that we have had this week. Finally, by Thursday we had some blue sky and it looks promising for the weekend.
Our friend and contractor, Ray is putting up gutters and downspouts on the old church. That's something that we have needed to do because when we get a lot of rain, it comes off the roof and saturates the ground which leads to the bank surrounding the building caving in and trying to bury the church again. Ray has one more project to do for us after he finishes the gutters and then most of our projects will be done for this time.
My next project will be getting ready for more company next week. My cousin, Mike and his wife Sheryl from Henderson, Nevada will be here next Friday and my sister Jeanne and her husband Bob from England are here after that. They will be here for a couple of days. Our cousin family reunion for my Dad's side of the family will be on July 27th in Hillsboro and we have to get ready for that.
Summer is sure a busy time of year around here!
