IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
We made it through another week!
We helped with our community picnic on Saturday at Upper Park in Wheeler. We had quite a nice turn-out and were pleased with the outcome. We figured about 75-80 people showed up to enjoy hot dogs and ice cream. The emergency tent was set up so people could see how prepared they were in case of a disaster and we gave out prizes. We hope to make this an annual event so neighbors can come together and get to know one another.
Last Saturday I went to fix breakfast for everyone and my stove top would not work! We thought it was a breaker but it kept tripping so we had to call the repairman to come and look at it. Apparently a wire shorted out on a switch inside the stove and he had to order a new part. I think the poor stove was just tired after all the cooking that it had to endure during the week with all the company we had! Anyway, I have been inventing new ways to cook this week without the use of my stove. I do have a microwave, an oven and my good old electric frying pan so we didn't starve around here. Hopefully, the part will arrive sometime today.
Luis and his small crew showed up on Tuesday to work on the deck some more. He took a week off and flew to LA to celebrate the 4th with his family and friends. He came back and started working where he left off. The deck is coming along and it's about half done, but he has another week's worth of work to go. It didn't help that it started raining this week which made it miserable to work in but he carried on.
We also had Ray do some of the project. He made some stairs at the end of the deck near our bedroom. I have always wanted stairs there because the deck just ended without a guardrail or anything about 5 feet off the ground. Not only was it dangerous, I would also I have to go all the way around to the front of the house or get a ladder so I could wash the bedroom windows. This is going to make it so much easier.
Since the family was all here, we had our picture taken down on the beach. The pictures turned out great but some of them we were squinting because of the sun, but the photographer had taken some pictures before the sun came out behind the clouds so most of them were pretty good. So I am sharing with you some of the pictures Dave took while on the beach. Now to figure out which ones the photographer took that I would like to keep.
A friend of ours from the pool has a sawmill and he offered to cut some pieces that we will use to replace some steps on a pathway alongside the house. Thursday was the day and so once Dave checked in with Ray about the deck stairs, he headed out to meet up with Wayne to help with the sawmill. So now we have some nice pieces to make pathway steps out of, but I'm not sure just when we are going to find the time to get that project done.
With all that was going on, it's kind of nice to have some quiet time once again. It's been quite a week, with company coming and going, repairmen showing up and the crew to repair our deck.
