IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
It's summer and what do you know, it's raining! Not very much and probably just for one day, but right now, we need all we can get.
Dave had a great Father's Day with Jason and Leslie coming down with their boat on Saturday. They had invited us to lunch at the Captain's Korner in Garibaldi so we sat outdoors on that beautiful day and ate fish and chips that were delicious. But, before that, Leslie and Jason had ventured out in the ocean for the first time with their boat and then went crabbing/fishing in Tillamook Bay. While they were in the bay, a big gust of wind came along and threw Leslie off balance and she ended up going for a swim! Luckily, she had her PFD on because they had been out over the bar in the ocean. She is lucky because they usually don't wear them when they are in the bay. Her PFD is one of those that automatically inflates when it comes in contact with water, so she found out that it really works! We took her some warm, dry clothes when we met them for lunch.
On Sunday, our older daughter, Lara arrived and spent the day with her dad. Her girls were spending the day with their dad and so she decided she would do the same. It was nice to see her and she went right to work getting some projects done. She helped put the rest of the pictures up on the wall as she didn't want us hanging over the railing trying to do it. There was also some ladder work involved and she DEFINITELY didn't want us doing that! Now, everything is back in place and it looks so nice. She also took us out for dinner over at our favorite pizza place because it was such a beautiful day. We chose the crab boat as our transportation and that was fun cruising up to Nehalem and docking in front of the restaurant. We ate our pizza and went back to the dock in Wheeler in time for her to leave and still get home before dark.
So, here's the way the back wall looked before it was painted and again afterward.
We finally (after the third try) got the protective clearcoat on our new Jeep. Dave got up early on Saturday and drove it up to Seaside for the job. I didn't go, as my girlfriend Patricia was expected over as she wanted to get a few flowers from my yard for her church's altar on Sunday. She brought scones and stayed for tea.
This week seems to have been full of meetings. Dave and I belong to the "Plan Your Neighborhood" group, which works at preparing residents in local neighborhoods in case of an emergency - wind, flood, tsunami, whatever. This group is mainly made up of Manzanita residents but Wheeler and Nehalem are also represented. On Tuesday, Dave had Wheeler City Council meeting and then on Wednesday night there was yet another meeting. We are involved in the planning of the Wheeler Community Picnic which is going to be held on July 6th. Don't ask me how we get so involved, I guess we just can't say "No".
The rest of this week we have been finishing up projects - the pipe support for the flag pole had rusted through and it was leaning to one side, so Dave replaced the faulty part and then after that, we hoisted up the staff. I tore into the ivy that was taking over the side of the house and transplanted my small Camellia bush that never blooms. It was located beside the corner of the house where the deck ends and we have decided to add steps there so it was in the way. I also finished spreading the rest of the compost around the yard. The stuff has been in our small trailer and we need to use that trailer to get rid of all of the yard debris that I have been collecting, so the compost had to go. So, all in all, things are looking pretty good around here.
I had Carl the "Mole Man" come by and set a trap for a mole that has been working in my flower beds. Carl had to reset the trap as the mole got away the first time. Well, the second time the mole wasn't so lucky!
Just a glimpse of our world this week.
