IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Jan

We have been working our buns off around here this week! Not only at home, but helping with the annual city clean-up day last Saturday. We had quite the crew this year and it made the work easier. Dave drove around town with his trailer picking up stuff that people had requested to be picked up and the rest of the people drove down to our unloading spot at Waterfront Park and dropped stuff off. We had nearly three big dumpsters full by the end of the day. One of the dumpsters was dedicated for metal only and that was more than half full. It seems like each year we are getting rid of less and less, which is a good thing. This is our 12th year of cleaning up the city. Also the crew brought goodies to snack on so we had plenty of snacks to eat. Of course, we also came home with things people throw away and this year we came home with a new ceiling fan which is missing a part, a wooden chair which we have stripped down, sanded and repainted and a small generator which needs a new pull for it to work. It is amazing what people throw away!

We mentioned to our friend Lori who works at City Hall to see if her fiance would mind bringing his excavating equipment over to pull out a nasty stump that has these vicious thorns. Dave had tried to take care of it with the tractor and about tipped the tractor over trying to pull it out. Jon pulled the stump (roots and all) in five minutes! All it takes is the right equipment and all it is costing us is a dinner out in Manzanita!

I got all the weeds pulled out of the side yard that runs along the road which only took me a week to do. Dave wanted all the black ground cover removed as it was starting to tear and show in places. I had to remove some weeds and then cut and tear the plastic cover a little at a time. That's what took me so long. At least now, I can mark that job off my list. Not only was I pulling weeds at home, but for our work party, we pulled weeds up at City Hall. It was beginning to look pretty shabby. We don't get to tackle City Hall very often and it shows. We get a lot of dandelions and stuff growing in the gravel and in the cracks in the pavement. There's a lot to maintain and it's only when it begins to get out of control that we actually do something. We have to get that property back on our regular maintenance schedule.

Decking

I took the rest of the day off as Dave and I drove to Salem to see Leslie and Jason as well as pick up a load of lumber to redo our deck. Hopefully, Luis will show up with his crew today (I won't hold my breath) and they can get started redoing our deck.

Wednesday, the guy who mows the lawn dropped by as Dave wanted him to trim some of the lower branches off the tree that is by our driveway. Then Dave had to load the tractor with the branches and stump from the other job and take it down to Kahrs' burn pile. Kahrs' let us put burnable yard debris on his burn pile and then this fall we will have a big bonfire.

We also had called the "mole guy" to come by as I noticed a mole had been working in my flower bed. Carl is an expert on catching moles so he set a trap and the next day it had sprung. Unfortunately, no mole, so he had to reset the trap again.

Taylor

Taylor

We have been taking care of Taylor (Kahrs' grandson) for a couple of days this week. His grandparents took a cruise to Alaska and so their daughter (Dawn) needed a sitter for a couple of days. Taylor helped Dave launch the crab boat and take it up to Des' dock for the summer. Taylor has been having a great time helping Dave around the place.

Well, that's about all the news here. I hope next week is quieter around here, but I doubt it.
