IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!
This has been the slowest week. I have been two days ahead of myself all week, but finally Friday is here!
We had an encounter with a wild critter this week. I went down stairs to get something out of the extra refrigerator and I heard this scratching on the window. I pulled back the curtain and discovered this huge (what I thought was a rat) and it turned out to be a Mountain Beaver. He was gotten down in the window well and couldn't get out! The window well which is made of a corrugated metal was to slick for him to get a grip and I wasn't about to open the window! Anyway, we tried to get the cat interested and he gave it one look and probably thought "it sucks to be you, buddy". We finally stuck a 2x4 board down in the well, thinking he could climb out that way, but he was busy digging a tunnel so I don't know how he actually got out but he was gone the next day. It is hard to see him in this picture because we took it through the glass and it was dark in the window well. But if you look carefully, you can see the big fur ball. He takes up the entire bottom of the photo.
I have been dodging rain showers this week trying to get some yard work done. I finally finished up on the street side of our house. It took me about a week to complete but it's done. On one of the warmer days we had, Dave fired up the propane torch and I proceeded to toast a few dried weeds. I managed not to set the place on fire. So, most of the major projects are caught up for now and I am glad because the weather man is forecasting rain for the next few days and I have worked feverishly to beat the rain.
My vegetable garden is coming along, everything has sprouted and we are eating fresh lettuce. The snow peas are blooming so it won't be long before we have some of those too. Something has been munching on the green bean leaves but other than that all is well.
Dave reached a milestone this week when he was finally able to get steam up on the boat. He has been fighting with different homemade burners for the past six months and finally gave up and ordered a commercial oil burner. He had to modify it to make it work on the boat, but once he got that done he carefully tried it out. He’s tickled to death the way it is working and says he should have gone to a commercial burner years ago. Of course he had to celebrate a full head of steam with a little whistle blowing. Now if he can get the engine to turn over on steam, we will be ready to launch the boat. Stay tuned.
Today, we have to make a trip to Warrenton to get a protective coating on our new Jeep. After the accident we had with the rock hitting the hood, the protection seal wasn't done when they did the body repair. So we made an appointment to get that done. We may take two cars as it is a 1-1/2 hour job. While they are doing that, we will go on up to Costco and Home Depot and pick up a few things. Or, we could just take one car and wait while they do the job and then run errands after. We will make up our minds before we leave.
That's about it for this week; hope everyone is enjoying the nice weather.
