IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Bailey

Lara with us

We had a nice weekend on Saturday when Lara and Bailey the dog came down and spent the night. It's always nice to see her. Lara left on Tuesday for a vacation to Virginia (Crab Point) with three of her girlfriends. So I am in charge of her three girls, Jordyn, Jaysa and Jadyn. You can' say I am babysitting as they are not babies anymore, so I am just supervising. They are in school all day but their afternoon/evening schedules are hectic. They have so many activities going on; I don't know how they can keep them all straight! For instance, Jadyn hasn't been at the dinner table all week; she always has something going on at that hour. She has school and church activities that she is involved in plus she works at the concession stand at a local city park a couple times a week. It keeps them off the streets anyway. No wonder Lara needs a break! Anyway, their mother will be back next Wednesday, but my shift is over today as their father will be taking over for the holiday weekend. Collage

Luis' painting crew showed up on Monday and started working on my living/dining room. We have dark wood paneling in those rooms and because of that, it is always very dark in that area, even during the day time. The color I chose is call Clay Pot Dust (a soft white/yellow) and after looking at dark paneling for years, it is going to take some getting used to. But I think I am going to like the change. They have been working on this project all week because they have to move all the furniture, take everything off the walls, tape the molding, sand all of the paneling, put on one or two coats of primer and then the final finish coat. These pictures are just the first primer coat; you can already see how much brighter it is going to be. We haven't seen the finished product yet. That will be a surprise when we get home.

Jan & friends

While we were in town, we met with my old high school class for the monthly reunion luncheon. A lot of my classmates were there. While we were there, we posed for this photo of some of the Hilhi people who went on to Pacific University. I'm not sure how I got in the shot - just because I went to Hilhhi and Dave went to Pacific, I guess. After the lunch, Dave and I drove up to the cemetery and found my grandparents and parents graves. The cemetery is just down the street from where we have our luncheons so it was a quick and easy drive. I have to confess that I hadn't been to the cemetery for years, so we had to search for their grave sites. I knew about where they were, so with a little searching and help from a friendly maintenance man we were able to find them. The next time we go up there, we're going to have to bring some cleaning supplies because the markers could really use some TLC.

That afternoon I took Jaysa out to Red Robin for a late birthday treat. She mentioned that she needed a new bathing suit, so all she had to do was ask Grandma and her wish was granted. We ended up at a shop called Tillies where she tried on several suits before she ended up with one she liked. It is a white two-piece and it looks so cute on her.

An update on Dave and the steamboat. He thinks he is about ready to get it fired up. After four frustrating months of fighting with the burner (and almost blowing himself up) he finally bought a commercial burner. He picked it up in Portland on this trip and as soon as we get home, I'm sure we're going to see him try to finish that little project. I'll have pictures next week if he is successful.
