IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

We are having a few dry days so I have been trying to get outdoors to catch up on my weeding between sprinkles. After that, I will be shoveling compost on my beds. I also spent some time at the Community Garden this week in preparation of planting some vegetables in the plot that I have rented from the city. I pulled some weeds out of the plot next to me as they were getting pretty tall and the first breeze will blow all the weed seeds my way. I hope whoever's plot that is, takes care of it this summer. Dave spent the day Wednesday fastening copper strips to the edges of that garden. We have discovered that the slugs will not cross that copper, so my community garden plot ought to be "slug-free".

We made a trip into the VA in Portland for Dave's doctor appointment on Monday. His oncologist likes to see him a couple of times a year and this was one of those times. No tests, just sit and talk. After we left the VA Hospital, we made a couple more stops, one to Home Depot and then to Trader Joe's. All in all, it took most of the day and we didn't get back home until dinner time.

Dave and the rest of the City Council members were invited by Stimson Lumber Company to go on a tour of the timberlands above Wheeler on Wednesday. I think it was a good-will gesture, as the city is not too happy with what the timber company has been doing on the hills above the town. Besides the logging, they spray with herbicide every year and that always gets people riled up. Anyway, he took a photo from above the town to show the view from there. Too bad it wasn't a clearer day.

It was prom night for West Salem High School and our granddaughter, Paige and her friends all went. Leslie had fixed dinner before the party and with everyone dressed in their finest, they had a great time.

Next weekend is the start of plant sales in the area. First the Alder Creek Community Garden, then the Tillamook County Master Gardener's plant sale and finally the Nehalem Bay Garden Club plant sale, so I will be busy going to them.

Happy Easter everyone! We have been invited to Leslie and Jay's for dinner on Sunday, however we are going to spend Saturday night there too as Jason has a project that he needs Dave's help with. Jason always makes ham and lamb for dinner for Easter and we always look forward to that! We will have the whole family together too, which is always nice.
