IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Collage

This week was extra nice. It was my granddaughter Jadyn's 16 birthday on Wednesday, April 3rd, so we drove two cars into town. We have been stowing away the VW bug in our church for the last couple of months and it was time for delivery. It was a surprise for her birthday. Luckily, she had passed both her written and driving tests and received her driver's license on her birthday.

We wanted to surprise her with the car because she has wanted a car way before she got her license. Anyway, we got to West Linn early enough to get it washed and filled with gas and then we were going to hide it in the garage before she got home from school at 3:30. But, there was one problem, when we got to Lara's, we found that we had left the key to the house In Dave's Ford (the only car we didn't bring to West Linn) so we couldn't get the car in the garage. Now what were we going to do? Luckily, I was able to make contact with Lara and she gave us the combination to get into the garage so we were able to hide the car before Jadyn arrived. Lara brought her home and she was so surprised when the garage door opened and there sat her birthday present with a big red bow on the hood of the VW bug! She loved it! Click on the arrow on the video on the left side of the screen to see her reaction. Afterwards, we took her to Red Robin for dinner and then back home so she could open the rest of her presents and take her sisters for a drive in her new car.

Jadyn was planning on taking the birthday car to school the next morning but she accidentally locked the only key inside the car! She was so deflated, but we called the insurance company and they sent someone out to unlock it for her. The way she was parked also blocked her mother's car, so Lara couldn't even help by driving her to school. So, the only thing she could do was to wait an hour for the guy to show up to unlock the car! After it was unlocked, she didn't drive her car to school because she was late and trying to find a parking place near the school is impossible. Unless you are a Senior, the underclassman have to get there early to find a parking spot on the street by the school. Lesson learned. Get a second key and carry your keys on you until you are ready to go.

Jeep Plate

After we left Lara's on Thursday morning, we headed south to Salem to meet up with Jason to try once more to get our license plates switched. I think I mentioned that my old Jeep had our VA disabled license plates on it and we wanted to switch and the Veteran's plates on my new Jeep and give the old Jeep our new plates. We had tried to make this straight-across trade earlier, but we didn't have the valid registration for the new car yet and we had to wait until they mailed that to us. Well, it worked out this trip. The DMV was able to get them switched and put on the two cars, so now we are all set.

Also, while we were in town, we slipped over to Dave's "shirt-tail cousin's" place in King City to visit with Kay and her daughter Terri. It is always nice to spend some time with them and get caught-up although Kay is a faithful reader of my journal and usually knows what we have been up to. But, we like to visit with her just the same, and we can't get enough of her stories that she tells us.

We also have had some excitement around the neighborhood. The old house next door to us that had been torn down a while back, finally went up in flames this week. Well, at least the left over wood from it was burned. They had knocked down the old house several weeks ago but they had to wait until the rain had soaked the old wood before they set it on fire. It took two days to burn the remains and all that is left now are the bricks and a pile of ashes and the contractor is getting rid of the bricks as I write this. It will seem strange to see nothing but an empty lot at that site.

I've got my work cut out for me too. We got about 3-1/2 yards of Hemlock and fertilizer that was mixed together to spread on the flower beds sitting in the trailer calling my name. So I will be working on that project on all of our "non-rainy" days.

Everyone have a nice week!
