IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
So, here's what's been happening our way.
The weather has been the main concern around here. We didn't get our forecasted snow and ice, but it sure did rain really hard (over two inches in 24 hours) and some flooding! One night we had a wind storm with winds gusting at 30 to 40 mph. Even the cat was a little frightened. In fact, I got up during the night to use the bathroom and heard this tiny meow coming from inside the house. The cat had fallen asleep under the dining room table. We didn't even know he was in the house when we turned out the lights and went to bed. The cat was ready to go outside when he heard me stirring in the middle of the night. He has come a long way. He's still feral, but now he's coming in the house more often. He used to freak out when he found the door closed, now he waits until I wake up to let me know he wants out. I never thought I'd see the day!
Last weekend, we watched the old house next door finally being dismantled. We were invited up to our neighbor's place - they live above the old house - to watch it fall. Once the house was taken down, the next step is to clear away the debris and sell the lot. It is a wonderful lot with a full view of Nehalem Bay and the mountains. We think the cat spent nights under that old house, so he will have to find another place to take shelter during the storms now. Maybe coming indoors doesn't seem like a bad idea after all.
We got a call from our daughter, Leslie who was interested to find out if we were willing to part with my old Jeep. They were selling Paige's VW as she has to make so many trips into Portland for her soccer practices with the Thorn's Academy. Her VW is very reliable for trips around town, but because it is 19 years old, Leslie and Jason wanted to find out if we wanted to sell the Jeep. My Jeep is 11 years old, but runs great. Ironically, Dave and I had already been kicking around the idea of replacing it, so the timing was great.
So on Monday, we went up to Warrenton to the car dealership and we came back with a 2019 Jeep Cherokee! And it's red, just like my old one. We don't take delivery until next week because they have to put a couple of protective coats on it because we have so much gravel on the roads in the winter as well as all the salt air and water down here. I am excited about the new car and I really hope it runs as good as my old Jeep.
We decided that we would clean out the old Jeep and get it ready for Paige. It wasn't that dirty, just that I had carried a lot of my garden tools in the back and I needed to clean it up a bit. While I was cleaning the back I accidentally smashed my right knee cap into the trailer hitch receiver. Ouch! I must have bruised it because it has been hurting for the last couple of days. I don't think I did any real damage, but it sure hurts to bend it and having arthritis in that knee doesn't help any. So I have been keeping heat and ice on it and trying to stay off it as much as I can.
We're still puttering around making some small improvements to the house. The downstairs guest bedroom has two doors but has always had just one light switch - as you enter from the stairs. If you want to use the bathroom, the door is right there, but the light switch is across the bedroom. Dave wired it that way, thinking there was going to be a fan in the center of the ceiling. Well, the fan never happened and so we were stuck with a single switch.
He finally got together with Ray this week and they pulled another wire across to the other side (not nearly as easy as they thought it was going to be) and then Dave finished connecting everything. They managed to add the wire with minimal disturbance to the wall, so there was very little patching to be done. So now, when you come to visit, the light switch situation is going to be much better. I also got a throw pillow for the bed which reads "Be Our Guest" to make it even more welcome. I hope we can have some guests drop by soon.
We had a quiet Valentine's Day yesterday. We exchanged cards and I fixed an early dinner at home because Dave had rehearsal for his upcoming play. Besides, every day is Valentine's Day around here!
