IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
It's been a frustrating week and I am running out of time trying to get all my Christmas things done. I got all the decorations up with no problems, but getting my Christmas letter printed was another thing. First, we ran out of ink in the color printer cartridge half way through printing the letters and of course, there is no place close down here to just run to the store and replace it. We had to wait until we were making a trip to Tillamook. We finally got the cartridge and got all the letters printed out and then the post office had run out of Christmas stamps (What?) and I had to wait until this week to get more stamps. Then I ran out of Christmas cards, so it was another trip to find some more. So if the Christmas card is late this year you will know why!
Then there is the problem of finding gifts for everyone. I found out that the present that I had ordered for our daughter the first of December is two weeks out, so it will be after Christmas before she gets her gift. We were at Costco and I wanted to pick up something extra for the grandgirls but they only had three and I needed five so I have to look around for two extra. I am sure everything will work out but it sure can make you anxious.
About two weeks ago, we had a terrible wind storm and the wind bent our flag pole over and broke it in half. So Dave was in the process of repairing it when he discovered a whole lot of rot on the center beam under the deck! So I don't know if that was lucky or not having a broken flag pole and discovering the mess but we are in the process of getting it replaced. That was an expense we didn't plan on just before Christmas. Our friend Ray, who has done so many repairs and modifications on our place, has agreed to tackle the project. He and Dave made a pretty good start on it yesterday and they are hoping they can complete it by tonight. The weather we have down here at the coast is really hard on wooden structures, and we really need to keep an eye on things, especially if they are out of sight most of the time.
The Garden Club had their annual Christmas party and gift exchange this week. I hadn't attended a meeting for a while, so I decided to go. During the gift exchange, we bring a gift and pick a number and when your number is called, you can either pick a new gift or take someone else's that is already been opened. I decided to pick a new gift from the table and got a really neat surprise. My gift was exciting, a bird book, a blue kitchen towel and some pepper jelly in a darling basket. Well, someone else liked my gift and they immediately stole it. Dang! I had to find something else. I hate it when that happens.
Last night, we went to a local watering hole to celebrate the birthday of a special friend of ours. Linda is one of our Second Sunday Soup group and her husband arranged for several of her friends and neighbors to get together for the special occasion. It was a lot of fun.
I went to the doctor for a check on my knee. My left knee has "serious" arthritis and has been slowing me down a bit. The doctor gave me a cortisone shot to help with the pain and swelling. The knee felt like new again and I am able to move faster going up and down the stairs. But, the next day after the shot I had a reaction from it. My face turned beet red! I looked like I had a sunburn, but it is all fine now. I am going to make an appointment with the orthopedic doctor to have a look at my knee as the patella has evidently been moved out of place from the fall I had last spring. Stay tuned.
Well, that is about all the news I have. I really am enjoying this time of year even though it can get hectic sometimes.
