IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
We spent most of the week driving back and forth to and from the valley. Since Dave had a doctor's appointment on Tuesday and a follow-up on the "falling' survey the first thing on Tuesday morning, we decided to spend the night in West Linn at Lara's so we wouldn't have to get up at 0-dark thirty to drive into Portland.
Dave aced the test the second time. It was the same thing he had done three months ago, so he had a heads up on the answers. They wanted to check his balance before he started taking his new medication in August and then wait three months and check him again. He was a little tipsy on the balance board but otherwise they were pleased with his status. Besides, they gave him another $50 to take the survey. Then we had to hustle into Beaverton for his cardiac doctor's appointment. She wasn't happy with his blood pressure so put him on another medication (more pills). She questioned him taking all the vitamin supplements he is taking and wanted to know why he just doesn't eat an orange instead of taking vitamin C. Dave doesn't like oranges, especially to peel them. I do try to watch what we eat and fix pretty healthy meals. Just because she is a vegan and young I thought to myself, sister, just wait till you're 76 years old, have had cancer and will see how you feel!
We headed home after a couple of errands. I always like to shop at Trader Joe's to pick up a few special things from there. We also checked out the batteries plus store because my cell phone won't keep a charge for long. We stopped for lunch and were back on the road again and home by 3:00 p.m. Dave had a City Council meeting that night and the mayor had a "meet and greet" to introduce the new city manager we just hired.
I love this time of year, the sound of geese heading south for the winter and the colder nights and sunny days. It seems like our sugar maple tree changed colors over night. It is so beautiful and I enjoy looking at it out my kitchen window. We also saw a red headed woodpecker looking for bugs in the old walnut tree outside our bedroom window. That poor old walnut tree is just riddled with woodpecker holes. Our cat, Jerry has found a warm bed at night too. He has been curling up in the basket by our patio door where he keeps safe and dry.
Keep your fingers crossed! The guys are scheduled to come back on Monday afternoon to install my countertops. Let's hope they got it right this time. I am so tired of washing and drying my dishes in the utility room sink. I am looking forward in having my kitchen back and especially my dishwasher and stove top, although using the electric skillet hasn't been all that bad.
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving and didn't stuff yourselves too much. We went to West Salem and had a big feast there with the family. There were 16 people at the table and we stuffed ourselves as usual. In the past, we have made that trip in and back home in one day, but this time we drove in on Wednesday afternoon and stayed until Friday morning. The kids had borrowed our big flatbed trailer to move their new cabinets and we took it back to our place and didn't want to do that in the dark on a rainy, windy Thanksgiving night. We had a lovely time with the family.
