IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
We have been having beautiful fall weather with a few days of rain thrown in and the temperatures have even got down to freezing during the night. I am thinking how blessed we are to live where there are no fires, my heart breaks for those people who have lost everything in California. But we do have concerns about earthquakes and tsunamis, so we all have something to worry about, but we carry on. Dave and I have our "go bags" ready just in case.
Our daughter, Lara came to see us and spend the night Saturday. The granddaughters were visiting their father, so she drove down by herself. She wanted to surprise her father who was performing the radio version of "It's a Wonderful Life" at the theater in Nehalem. She showed up at the play and he was so happy to see her. Since it is performed as a '40's radio broadcast, Dave has several parts - so he has to change his voice to fit each character. Lara said it was well done. I plan to go to the final performance this coming Sunday.
Speaking of Sunday, it was our turn to host our Second Sunday Soup group. It is the usual six of us and the host gets to invite another couple. So, we had our neighbors, Jim and Nancy King join us this time. I fixed my "famous" chicken and dumplings and since one of our friends had a birthday we had cake and ice cream too. We do this every other month and once again, it was an enjoyable evening.
We had some good news and bad news with our new countertops. The good news: the installation crew showed up on schedule on Thursday. The first crew that came last week had measured for the counters and after being custom made this week, this group was here to install them. So we got everything cleared off the old counters and they ripped off the old back splash. They weren't very gentle about that because they were just going to cover over everything with the new tops. It was only then that we discovered the bad news: there was a mis-measurement and the countertops didn't fit correctly. So they were unable to install them and had to take them back to the shop to re-do them. You can see the problem in the close-up photo of the counter edge. That white part is the old countertop showing below the new one. We were kind of disappointed; especially since it will be another week before they will be able to come back to complete the installation. That means another week of doing the dishes in the utility sink and not being able to use my stove (which is sitting outside on the deck). I still have been able to manage making meals with my oven, microwave and electric skillet, but I was ready to have everything in place again. Luckily, we are going to Jason and Leslie's for Thanksgiving.
Well, I hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving and are able to get together with their family and loved ones, we have so much to be thankful for.
