IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Again, sorry for the late post last week. We finally got the journal up about 24 hours after we usually do. If you missed it, it's in the archives under last week's date.

So...for this week...we had a great weekend with the family. Dave and I drove to Hillsboro where Paige was playing in a soccer game. We don't get to watch her play very often, so it is always a lot of fun when we do manage to get to a game. The score at half time was 3-0 with our team trailing, but that didn't last for long - by the end of the game it was tied. After the game, Paige was complaining of a sore throat and swollen glands, so later on she went to the emergency room and found out she has Mono! She tried to keep her distance but that stuff is very contagious. Needless to say, she's out of soccer as well as school for a while.

Lara Lara After the game, we all headed to Tualatin to meet up with Lara and her girls at Red Robin. It was to celebrate Lara's birthday. She got a kick out of it when the staff came and sang the Red Robin birthday song for her...just like they do for the little kids! We got Lara a couple of bleacher seats so when she goes to the games, she can watch with more comfort. We have a set and just love them. We stuffed ourselves at Red Robin and then Dave and I went down to West Salem to Leslie's to see the project that they are working on. They had a flood in their kitchen and it ruined the floors and lower cabinets. So everything is topsie-turvie at their place.

We left for home later and by the time we got there; I was starting to feel under the weather. I thought I had a sinus infection but it has turned into a full blown cold so I am blowing my nose often and coughing a lot. I haven't had a cold for awhile either.

Dennis On Sunday, Dave's cousin Dennis and family dropped by to see us. They live in the Tri-Cities of Washington, but have access to a beach house in Rockaway and they usually manage to pay us a visit while they are here. Since the girls decided to go shopping, Dennis thought it would make a good time to come see us, especially when he heard Dave was working on the steamboat. So, after chatting for a while in the house, they headed for the boat and spent the rest of the time puttering on that. Dennis enjoyed helping Dave work on the boat and has been invited to come down next spring to do some more. Dennis knows boats pretty well as he used to have his own tugboat. His dad - Dave's Uncle Nick - ran boats all his life and I think it is in the blood just like with Dave.

Smiley We had to make a trip back into the valley on Thursday. Jason wanted to borrow Dave's big trailer so he can haul his cabinets home from the shop. We left bright and early and we noticed on Highway 18 the "Happy Face" someone had made in the hillside. We delivered the trailer and then headed for Hillsboro to have lunch with a bunch of my high school classmates. They meet every month except in November and December, so this will be the last time this year. There is always about 15 or 20 people that show up and sometimes we have to introduce ourselves as our memories are rather short. Besides, people DO change after 60 years! After the luncheon, we had to make one more trip to the VA in Portland for Dave to have a blood draw. So it was Wheeler to West Salem, then over the hill to Hillsboro and then from there back into Portland to the VA Hospital. We made it home after that. We sure put in a lot of miles on the car that day. When we got to the VA Hospital, we headed for the 2nd floor where the blood lab is. We thought they had closed for the day as no one was around. But Dave took a number and he didn't even get a chance to sit down when they called him in. It was really fast. The last time we were there for a blood draw, it was earlier in the day and we had to wait almost an hour! We decided that going later in the afternoon is a better time.

Jack-o-lantern We are going to go back into West Salem on Saturday afternoon after Dave's class. He volunteered to keep data for the regional Emergency Volunteer Corps and has to be trained to do that. Anyway, Jason wants help hanging their new cabinets and there is also some electric stuff that has to be moved around, so Dave volunteered to help him with that. (Notice how many times the word "volunteer" was used there? That's what we do!) We will spend the night and hopefully, we will see if we can make it to Jaysa's soccer game this time. It is her last game of the season and she is doing quite well.

Oh, another thing I did this week, I got my jack-o-lantern carved, so I am ready for all the trick-or-treaters on Halloween this Wednesday.
