IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
We have been staying pretty close to home all week.
Since we had heavy rains over the weekend, and Dave couldn't work outside, he got busy and removed all the Z-brick from behind the refrigerator over the weekend. I had looked all over all the storage areas for more of that brick that his parents put on the wall but had no luck. I had just about given up on the idea of ever finding anything to match when, as I said last week, we found a lot of them mounted on the wall behind the refrigerator - where they were doing absolutely no good at all! So, Dave tackled the job of removing them so I can use them at another place in the kitchen. He cleaned the cement off and sanded the back of them so that we can reuse them. He only broke two, and we can still use those if we need to. He also had to replace the sheetrock as a lot came off when the bricks were removed. Then he mudded and sanded, which left a dusty mess on everything in the house. So I spent Sunday vacuuming and cleaning everything, from top to bottom.
I had the planter warts on my foot cut into by the doctor again on Tuesday. They seem to be really stubborn and just don't want to go away. By the time that procedure is done, I am hobbling around the house for a couple of days until I can walk on my foot again. I used the crutches the first day as that makes it a little easier to get around. So while I am lying around, I have been catching up on my reading. I am reading a really good novel right now called "The Surrogate" by Louise Jensen and I can't put it down.
The sun came back out on Wednesday and it has been quite pleasant out. I have some catching up to do in the yard, like putting my garden to bed, draining the water fountain and pruning back the day lilies. I still need to plant some more bulbs for this spring too.
Dave has been working out in his shop. He has been polishing up a lot of the brass on the steamboat. Things that we have always had to shine every time we want to take the boat anywhere. Anyway, he has been shining things like the steam whistles, the canopy support poles and all the brass and copper things on the hull and then putting a special lacquer on them which seals them and saves a lot of polishing later. The things look really nice and I hope they can stay that way. The idea of being able to use the boat without spending two days polishing brass has a lot of appeal!
We got the church pretty well in order and Dave got all of the trailers and the tractor stored away in there for the winter. The fishing boat is still in the water, but as soon as the weather turns colder, that too will be stored in the church. We noticed that there are a lot of rat droppings around in the church and we have been trying all kinds of recommendations on how to get rid of them. We tried dryer sheets because we were told that rats don't like the smell. Well, that didn't work and all it did was stink up the church! Our next recommendation was to get this product call "One Bite" rodent eliminator. We were told to nail it down because they will carry it off to their nests. Well we did, and the next day all there was left was the screws that we had used to fasten the stuff to the building. So, there was plenty of evidence that they had eaten it, but we haven't seen any dead rats around. We'll see.
Like I said, we have been sticking close to home. We made a run into Tillamook to deliver some papers to the VA office for Dave and I did some grocery shopping...real exciting. But we have to get out and about once in awhile, especially when the sun is shining.
