IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
My goodness, what a busy week it's been!
I hope you had a nice Labor Day weekend. We had the family down for the three days to help celebrate Dave's birthday. We also celebrated our granddaughter, Ashtin's 19th birthday as she was born on August 29th. We had promised her that she could have her grandfather's old GPS for her car but when he went to look for it and couldn't find it, we just bought her a new one. That will work better anyway. She was pleased with her gift. The family went together and got Dave an electric trailer tongue jack. I know, it sounds strange, but it is something he really needed. He has trouble getting trailers on and off hitches and so it was the perfect gift! He was so excited about it that he couldn't stop admiring it the rest of the weekend and in fact, spent some time putting it together Sunday and Monday. So now he doesn't have to crank the trailer up by hand anymore. We couldn't have birthdays without cake and Leslie brought this "Death by Chocolate" cake which we all enjoyed and ended up bouncing off the walls with all the sugar and chocolate!
Later on, everyone went crabbing but they weren't very lucky in that department. The first day they got two crabs because most of them that were caught were females and you can't keep them. The second day we only scored one crab. We were using the old bait from Saturday on Monday's trip and since it wasn't fresh, we think that's why we did so badly that day. Who knew crabs were that picky? The bay was very choppy and windy on Monday and so we came back home early - soaked to the skin!
Tuesday evening while Dave was putting some holes in some cottage cheese containers (he uses them in the church for rodent control. We put dryer sheets in them and leave them around the areas where we see signs of rats. The rats don't like the smell and stay away!). Anyway, he sliced his finger pretty bad and was bleeding quite a bit, so I rushed him to the ER to have it checked. We first went to the Urgent care in Manzanita but they were closed. So we ended up going all the way to the Emergency Room at the hospital in Tillamook. By the time we got there, the bleeding had stopped but they cleaned it real good and glued it back together. It's going to be sore for a few days and he has to keep it out of water, so that means he doesn't have to help me do the dishes!
We had the hump in our upper driveway leveled. Our friend, John Longfellow came over with his equipment and smoothed it out for us. We have had problems because - while it was nice and level for a while, it dropped off pretty fast down toward the street. That created a problem with motor homes, trucks and trailers trying to get out of our driveway without scraping the ground. Now it is a nice gentle slope to the street and we shouldn't have a problem anymore. They even put a load of gravel on the driveway where they excavated it!
Ray (our friend who doubles as our contractor) came on Thursday to work on the finishing touches on the microwave and oven. We were waiting for the microwave trim kit we ordered to get here. It arrived Wednesday, so, Ray was able to finish that project. He had some extra time, so he started putting the drawers in the lower cabinets. The drawers slide out and make it so I can access more of the cabinet space. One of the drawer slides appears to be the wrong one, so he will be back today to try to solve that little problem.
We will be going into town today. Dave wants to finish Jordyn's bedroom that he started awhile back. He has to put the molding around the walls. Then Friday night football at West Linn where our granddaughter, Jadyn will be performing with the dance team at half-time and Saturday we will get to see a couple of soccer games with the other ones so it looks like our weekend is filled.
