IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

It's time to sit back and have a cup of coffee. It's been another busy week with birthday celebrations and the Fourth of July.

It's hard to believe that I am another year older, but at least I am "still in the game" as my friend Diane told me. The kids came down and spent my day with me and then stayed for the parade at Manzanita. For my birthday, they got me a retractable 80-foot hose which can go almost everywhere I need to water which is so neat! All I have to do is give it a gentle pull to get it to retract when I'm done using it. Now I don't have to rewind the hose every time I do my watering.

Wouldn't you know it?!! The day before the gang shows up, my oven breaks! I fixed lasagna, which took me all day to bake because something went wrong. I'm hoping it may be as simple as a burned out element, but it's a pretty old oven, so I just don't know. Meanwhile, I have a houseful and I can't get a repairman in until next Wednesday! So I am trying to make things that don't need to be baked. I do have a microwave and a grill, so I am not dead in the water! My dishwasher and washing machine have been going non-stop with all the gang here, but that's okay too.

We spent most of the week getting the steamboat ready for the parade. After painting the deck, I washed it and did part of the brass polishing and Dave got the boiler ready so he could blow the whistle during the parade. He also polished the brass with his polishing wheel which made it easier than by hand. We all decorated it and had invited the Kahrs to join us this year in the parade. Also another friend, Carl came along and all the kids sat on the bow so we had a boat load. Jason pulled the boat with his new truck and since I couldn't manage getting into the boat to ride (because of my ankle) I rode in the truck with Jason and Leslie. That was fine as we had some sprinkles and we were nice and warm and dry inside the truck!

We didn't have the city fireworks display this year in Manzanita because it was getting too expensive. So the kids bought some fireworks with them and they had their own show right in our driveway! It looked like a war zone the next morning with all the debris.

Jadyn, Jordyn The girls didn't get here in time to put the flags along the downtown streets for Independence Day, but since the flags stayed in for five days, they were here to help Dave and his crew take them down on the 5th. They always enjoy helping with the flags every holiday that they are here and the volunteer flag crew always appreciates the extra help they get from the young folks.

I went to the doctor last week because I have been complaining about my ankle and left knee bothering me. I was told that I should be patient with my ankle as it has only been three months since I broke it. I was also asking about my knee as it has been "locking up" on me and I thought it was because of the broken ankle. I had X-rays taken and the results were not good. Apparently, I have serious arthritis in my knee and my patella is being pushed to the side. I will be doing physical therapy beginning this next week and the clinic just made an appointment for me to see the orthopedic surgeon about the same time. See what happens when you get a year older?

Well, that's what is happening in my world. But, I AM still in the game!!
