IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
We had a delightful visit from our granddaughter, Ashtin and her college roommate, Maddie over the weekend. Maddie is from Colorado and hadn't seen much of the Oregon coast and had never been to Seaside, so Ashtin drove her down to show her some of the sights. The weather wasn't too promising, mostly drizzly and clouds but the sun did come out once in a while. They had to leave on Sunday to get back to campus but they had a good break from the college life.
While they were here, Ashtin had to memorize a speech she was scheduled to deliver in class on Monday. She worked on it all weekend from her spot here on the couch and her grandfather was only too glad to help her with it. We heard Monday night that she got an "A" on it, so it was all worthwhile and G-dad is very pleased.
Ashtin's sister, Paige competed in the State championships for track on Friday. She jumps hurdles for West Salem High School. Although she didn't win her race, she experienced the fact that she got to participate in the meet - competing at the state level and the University of Oregon. After that was over, she had to race to Portland to make a flight to Utah to catch up with her soccer team who was playing down there. She was asked to play with the 19-year team this time.
This is very short this week, but I did want to catch up on the activities of the granddaughters and also to say that - if everything went according to schedule, we left Thursday and are in Vancouver, B.C. today and ready to head east on our train trip through Canada. I will try to write more as we go along, but we don't know about the internet connections. However, we will post whenever we can and we will take lots of pictures to show you all the sites along the way. But as I said last week, if there's no update next Friday, don't panic! I'll catch up the following week. By the way, I do still have some swelling in my ankle, but we knew that was probably going to be the case when we decided to stick with our plans for the trip. It doesn't bother me too much and besides, I really don't think we're going to have to walk all that much. This is a train trip, after all!
We have a house-sitter staying here while we are gone - mostly to feed the cat, but also to water my flowers and just keep an eye on the place.
