IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
It's been an ordinary week but I did manage to get a little yard work done when the sun peaked out from the clouds. I got all the flowers that I bought planted and worked up my raised beds so the vegetables will go in the ground when we get back from our vacation to Canada. I don't want to put them in the ground just yet as it hasn't been that warm down here at the coast. So the tomatoes, lettuce and cucumbers will remain in the green house for the time being. My ankle is mostly healed, although I have been using my cane for balance, especially when I am outdoors. If it wasn't for my bursitis in my hip, I think I could enter a race!!
Dave has been puttering around with outdoor projects this week. He cleared all the unused shingles that were left over from the church and picked through the ones we wanted to keep. We decided to put siding on one more side of the church, so it will have cedar siding on three sides and shingles on one. We won't see the side that has the shingles on it anyway because it is facing the place next door. We made a trip into Salem last Sunday to buy the cedar siding. While we were there, we spent the night with Leslie and Jason and had a nice visit with Ashtin who was home from college for the weekend. She was taking care of the dog while her folks had flown to San Jose to attend a soccer game that Paige played in. We took her out to dinner to a great Mexican restaurant to celebrate Cinco de Mayo as her folks didn't get home until after 9:00 from their flight.
I can't believe our feral cat, Jerry! After he has his dinner at night, he has been wondering around the house checking things out. He never has done that before. He comes in mostly to be petted and as long as we leave the back door open, he feels right at home. He even cleans himself and takes a nap! Jerry's brother Tom used to come in all the time and curl up under the table to take naps, but Jerry was always to spooky one. After a while, he's ready to hit the road again, but he has been staying in the house longer with each visit. I may domesticate him yet!
I have to brag a little about Ashtin's sister, Paige. As you know if you read this journal at all, she's a pretty fair soccer player. But she has also decided to participate in track this year. Like her mother, she's running the hurdles and has done pretty well at it. It seems each week, Leslie sends us a report that Paige has set another personal record at a meet. Last week, it was enough to earn her a berth at the regional meet on Thursday. As I was writing this last night, Leslie texted us that she set another PR at the regionals, finished 2nd in the event and is now going to the state championships! Yeah - we're proud!
We are going into town on Saturday to celebrate birthdays and Mother's day with the family. Three birthdays this weekend, starting with Leslie today, Jaysa on Saturday and Jason on Sunday. It hits us all at once! I hope everyone has a wonderful Mother's day.
