IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
I hope everyone had a nice Easter. We drove into Salem to be with our families for a wonderful dinner of ham and lamb that Jason prepared for all of us. It was so nice to be with all the granddaughters and get caught up with their busy lives. We had a beautiful Saturday the day before and we were hoping that Sunday would be just as nice. It was - in a way. When we left home for our drive to Salem, it was raining pretty hard, but when we got about halfway there, it cleared up. While there wasn't a lot of sun like Saturday, it wasn't raining either, so it was pleasant.
Monday, I had an appointment with the orthopedic doctor and he was pleased with the way my ankle is healing so far. We traded the plaster splint for a boot and a compression socking as my foot is still pretty swollen. I feel like a moon walker with this big old boot on my foot! The good news is that it only weighs about half as much as the cast so it's a lot more comfortable. I can take it off to shower but I still can't walk on the ankle for 3 1/2 more weeks, so I am still in the wheelchair. I am getting pretty good with that thing too. I'm getting around the kitchen and getting the meals with only a little help from Dave.
I am going crazy around here! Some friends loaned me a couple of jigsaw puzzles to work on, so that has kept me busy. I hadn't done a jigsaw puzzle for several years. It was a lot of fun and even Dave got into them and helped me. It was nice to find a little project that we could both work on at the same time. Another friend has promised to bring more puzzles sometime today, so I think I'm all set for puzzles for a while! I also finished my latest book and so now I will have to find another book to keep me busy. There is always television but - other than baseball - I don't find too much on there during the day to interest me.
Our granddaughter Jadyn turned 15 on April 3rd and she has been studying the Oregon Driver's Manual so that she could get her permit. At Easter we were "testing" her on some of the questions in the manual. There is a lot in there that even I had forgotten about some of the rules of the road. I am glad I don't have to take the test as I would surely have failed it. Anyway, she took her test and immediately got behind the wheel to drive home. Lara "FaceTimed" us so we were able to watch live as she was driving. It was hilarious! She was freaking out because someone pulled in behind her, "Oh my God! There's a car behind me!" She was actually pretty cool about the whole thing, but she was definitely thinking about making sure that driver didn't realize he was behind a driver with a brand new learner's permit! I think I will wait awhile before I ride with her. Our other granddaughter, Paige turns 16 on April 9th and she will be getting her driver's license. Both she and her sister Ashtin had to take their grandfather for a drive in their new cars. He reported that they both did very well and that he wouldn't be concerned about them driving. So, we now have three granddaughters behind the wheel. My, they grow up fast!
Finally, after waiting what seems like forever, the City has hired someone to fix our little road. It has been gravel for so long and they are tired of maintaining it and decided last year to pave it! But winter got in the way and we got pushed to this spring. Dave wanted to make sure that no one had forgotten about the project, so he has been making some noises around city hall. Sure enough, they called Thursday to say that they are beginning - yesterday!! They actually showed up yesterday and began preparing the road for the new surface. On Monday, they promise they'll be here to begin the actual paving. Of course, that depends on the weather, but right now it looks like it will be sunny on Monday. No more dusty road during the summer time with people driving up and down our street! We are going to be inconvenienced for a couple of days next week while they pave and I had to cancel my doctor's appointment next Tuesday. We will have to park our cars on the next street over and I wasn't sure how I was going to get to the car in my wheelchair when it's parked so far away. But that's okay, it's a small price to pay for actually getting the street paved.
Leslie finished the blanket that she was knitting for Dave and presented it to him on Easter. He had made her some cedar planters for her yard and this was a nice thank you. She has made several of these blankets and they seem very popular with everyone. They are nice and cozy and warm.
Well, I am counting the days when I can be out of this boot and be able to get around better. Happy Spring everybody!!
