IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
It's been a great week. Dave and I are getting over the crud that has everyone else stopped in their tracks. We just hope we don't catch it again. The weather has been "spring-like" and just to give us a tease, the sun even appeared! I sure hope spring comes early as some of my daffodils and my sweet Daphne bush are blooming. All of the bulbs that we planted last fall in the park are starting to come up. It sure makes me want to be outside.
The North Coast Recreation District had a "Winterfest" last weekend in Nehalem and we went on Saturday night and listened to Quarterflash in concert. They are still a great sound and we enjoyed their performance. Dave had worked with one of the guys at the Blazers. Back in the early days of the franchise, the Trail Blazers used to have a guy who played the organ for their music at the games. When they decided to get rid of the organ and bring the music into the 20th century, they hired Marv Ross of Quarterflash to provide some rock music for entertainment at the games. Dave worked with him behind the scenes, which is our connection with the band. It was fun to know that Marv remembered him from their old Blazer days as we re-connected at the concert. Anyway, the performance was almost a sell-out and we were glad we bought our tickets early.
Jerry, our cat, brought me a present the other day. He left a big dead rat lying on the deck. He catches one now and then and he is always ready to show me his "prize". He is a great pest controller. Speaking of Jerry, he is getting brave for his old age, he now comes in the house as far as the kitchen, but I still have to leave the door open for his escape route. We had another kitty appear the other day and boy did Jerry growl and hiss and chase it away. He has his territory and nobody encroaches.
We heard this crash on the window the other day and looked to see that a bird had run into it. We're not certain but we think it is a Peregrine falcon. We thought it had broken it's wing and it lay on the ground for awhile, stunned. But later it flew off after shaking out the cobwebs. It is rather rare to have a falcon in the neighborhood and it really surprised us. They are more of a field and mountain bird and aren't on the coast much. He must have gotten lost.
Luis and the Cubans surprised us the other day by showing up to do some work around the place. Some of them are back from their jobs in Texas and Missouri and are glad to be back in Oregon. They placed screening on our house gutters, dug a trench for Dave to run electrical conduit to the church from the boat barn, set the post for our solar lamp and repaired and widened the ramp that was broken on the church. Dave had fixed our flag pole, as it got bent in the high wind one day. He put a heavy pipe inside it, but he re-enforced it so much that it was really, really heavy and he couldn't lift it back in place by himself. So the Cubans helped him and they picked it up like it was a twig and set it in place up on the deck. So now our flag is flying high again and hopefully will now be able to withstand more than a light breeze. After I fed them all dinner, they went home. But they came back the next day to finish the projects they had begun! We took them out for lunch to show our appreciation and I also cooked dinner for them again Thursday night. They are such a great group of guys and I love listening to them chatter in Spanish to one another.
That's about all the news my way. I hope all is well with you and that you have a nice Valentine's day.
