IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Another month has gone along as well as another year, where does the time go? It is hard to believe that 2018 is just around the corner.

Luis

Last week, Luis and a helper dropped by to pressure wash our roof. We never know when he is going to appear and it is always without warning. We drop everything and watch them do their thing. Luis is funny that way, he says he will be there Tuesday or Wednesday, but he fails to say which Tuesday or Wednesday to expect him! He was going to come back the next day to make a railing for us to hold on to when we use the stairs by the church, but he didn't return. He was probably anxious about the weather and wanted to get home while he could. Maybe next Tuesday or Wednesday...

We were invited over to a friend's house for a get-together of wine and chocolate last Saturday. There were about eight of us and we had a lot of fun sampling all the homemade goodies that she had made. I have already resolved to go on a diet the first of the year as I have gained too much weight over the holidays.

We had a wonderful Christmas with our family. We left for West Linn on Sunday so we would be able to stop by and see Dave's sister, Leanna on our way into town. She is doing great in her new place and was going to be traveling up to Washington to be with her family for Christmas.

We left early enough to try to beat the weather forecast which was calling for snow and maybe freezing rain. We made it over the Coast Range with no problems and didn't hit any signs of snow or ice until we got over the range and into Forest Grove. The roads were well maintained and ODOT had sprayed the roads with de-icer. We did meet a couple of snow plows heading west, so they were getting ready. Anyway, we made it to West Linn and it was starting to get pretty slick out so we headed down their hill to grab a bite to eat. Well, we turned off their street onto Sunset and we started sliding downhill. We slid most of the way to the bottom of the hill as their road wasn't de-iced yet. It was pretty scary going down the hill but we managed to dodge traffic and we made it okay. On the way back to Lara's, we took another route where the roads were in better shape.

When we got back, the granddaughters (Jadyn, Jaysa and Jordyn) were waiting for their Granddad to read "The Night before Christmas" to them before they headed to bed. That is a tradition each Christmas eve and I hope that it will carry on through many generations. The problem is that the book is really old and I don't know if it will hold together for too many more generations.

Dog

Christmas day was exciting for the younger granddaughters as their parents got them the cutest dog. They had wanted a dog for a long time so there were tears of joy when they got to hold her. The dog is part Papillion and part Chihuahua and she is fluffy and black with a white chest. There was quite a discussion on what her name is to be and they haven't decided yet.

Later that morning we headed down to West Salem to have dinner with Leslie's family. Jason had fixed prime rib and it was delicious. We stuffed ourselves! We spent the night as the weather was iffy and we didn't want to drive home in the dark. Since we were spending the night, we took advantage of the fact that we had "the book" with us and so Granddad read it again - this time to the older grandgirls, Ashtin and Paige. So, even though it was a night late, we still carried on the tradition!

Lara and Jadyn left for Miami on Tuesday afternoon. Jadyn is dancing during the Orange Bowl half-time. She had worked hard to save money to go on this trip, she babysat, pet sat, did yard work and saved lots and lots of bottles and cans. They had a 6 hour layover in Las Vegas on the way to Florida, so Lara showed Jadyn the life in Las Vegas. I am anxious to see what Jadyn thought of that place!

Scot

floor

Tuesday we had to move the washer, dryer, utility sink and refrigerator out of the way as the flooring guys were coming on Wednesday to put in the new floor in the kitchen and utility room. Dave took the baseboard and wall door trip off the wall and I re-stained them all. I really like the new floor. It is all the same from the kitchen through the hall and into the utility room and it flows really nice. Next week, the guys will be back to put a new floor in the bathroom and then we should be done for awhile.

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas and your new year is full of good health and happiness.
