IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Can you believe this weather we are having? It may be cold but the skies are clear and there is sunshine! I even have some Primroses that have decided to bloom early because of the sunny weather. We had to make a run to Home Depot the other day to pick up some insulation for the boat barn and return the unused tiles from our shower project and came back just in time to see the sunset on the ocean. We have had some beautiful sunsets with this weather.
The weather was so nice that the Park and Rec. Committee was able to get out and plant lots and lots of daffodil bulbs this week in both the Upper and Waterfront parks. We over did it when we ordered about 600 bulbs and this spring trying to find places to plant them all. When they bloom this spring we will be renamed "Daffodil City"!
We hosted the Park and Rec. Christmas party this year. There were about ten of us and we ate lots of food and drank lots of wine. It was a fun time as we usually only see each other when we have garden tools in our hands.
Dave decided to drag out the old Santa Claus we have stored in the attic and put him up in the window in the church. So Santa now waves to cars that go by on Highway 101 and brings a little Christmas to those passing by. All the lights on the house make things merry and bright. I guess we are ready for the holidays.
Dave has also replaced our flag pole. The old homemade one - which Dave's dad installed years ago - bent in a windstorm we had in October. Dave took it apart and got it more or less straight again, only to see it bend again in a subsequent windstorm. This time, he gave up and bought a new flag pole online. Wednesday, it arrived in several pieces and it took him a while to get it assembled. But now it's up and it certainly looks a lot better than having a tilted flag pole!
Another project that is almost completed - we just need to get the flooring done and wallpaper trim - is the bathroom. I am enjoying the new shower very much. The shower head is one that has four different water functions and that has been fun trying them out. The problem is - I have to be ready for a face full of water if I try to change the water flow though!
Jason and Ashtin came down on Thursday for a visit and to help Dave with a project. Ashtin is finished with college this term and doesn't have to go back to school until the middle of January. They decided to come down for a day and help Dave. They stayed for most of the day before they headed back home. It was great to have them here and we were grateful for the help.
We also had Luis and the Cubans come by yesterday. We have been trying to get Luis back here to tackle some jobs that have been on our list for quite a while but when all the Cubans left for Houston, he was left trying to get a lot of jobs finished by himself. Well, I guess Texas wasn't all they thought it would be and some of them are back in Oregon and working for Luis again. The guys plan on staying a couple of days so we are hoping that they will get most of our list completed by then. Also, Ray will be starting next week on replacing the utility room windows, so I hope the weather holds out for him.
Well, that's all the stuff that has been happening this week around here.
