IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Another month ends and here we are in December. This is a busy time of year with cards to mail, presents to wrap and Christmas lights and decorations to be displayed. I think I am ahead of schedule this year because Thanksgiving was early this year.

We had a great Thanksgiving with the family. We drove into town on Wednesday and were going to spend the night with Leslie's family in Salem but she called to say that Ashtin came home from college with a cold and high fever and she was afraid we would catch it. That's the last thing we need, so we stayed with Lara's family in West Linn Wednesday night. By Thursday, Ashtin was feeling a lot better so the dinner went on as planned. We had a beautiful turkey with all the trimmings and I had brought the highly-requested "macaroni salad" and two pies - pumpkin and chocolate. While we were in town decided to do a little shopping. We weren't out long, but we bought a couple of Christmas presents - so let the festivities begin.

Taylor

We had Taylor, the Kahrs' grandson over for a couple of hours the other night while his mother attended a meeting. He ate dinner with us and afterwards, Dave took him out to his shop to keep him busy. He is nine and an only child who is very smart because he hangs around adults most of the time. He really enjoyed being with Dave and learning how to run different tools. Dave showed him how to use the spindle sander and Taylor vacuumed the shop for him with his shop vac. He would like to come over every day after school and work in the shop but I don't think Dave would get much done.

bathroom

We are coming along with our bathroom project. The shower was tiled this week. This is a panorama photo taken just before the final rows were put in place. The purple thing in the middle is a tile form for a "niche" for soap and shampoo. That has since been tiled as well. The heavy glass shower doors will be installed next. It is really coming together nicely. I keep hoping that this project will come to an end soon so I can get my shower back!

Since I am motivated with this holiday stuff, I decided to drag out the decorations and get started with that. The stuff is kept up in the attic and it is getting harder and harder for me to climb up there so last time the granddaughters were down, I had them move a lot of the stuff close to the door so it would be easier for me. So hopefully, I won't have to make too many trips to the attic. I wrote my Christmas letter and will run those off and get them stuffed in the cards that I am sending. I don't know if anybody likes reading those letters but I know I enjoy receiving them at Christmas time as it is the only time I hear from people. The presents that were bought will be wrapped next week so that will be done. One reason I am so early this year is I am having a party at our place on the 10th and I want it to look like Christmas.

Jan

When I am not thinking about Christmas, I have been reading a really good book. While I was at Lara's last weekend, I found a book lying around so I decided to borrow it. It is called "Skeleton Coast" by Clive Cussler and it is about adventures on the spy ship "Oregon". It was hard to put down and I finished it the other night and now Dave is into it.

We had a flock of Finches arrive the other day which was a surprise. I hadn't seen many of them at the feeders all summer and here they came in the middle of winter. They only stayed for a couple of days to load up on seeds before they go south for the winter. We are getting our winter birds in, the Chick-a-Dee, Oregon Junko and Nuthatch are starting to show up. Of course the Blue Jays are here all year around.

Well, hope your holiday plans are moving along and you can enjoy some of the festivities that goes along with this wonderful season.
